Report: Team-BHP Delhi/NCR meet @ 23.04.2006

After about a week of planning, juggling with ideas as to where & when we should meet and what we should do, PM-ing all active members from the NCR area (3-hour job), collecting the resulting confirmations, Cell numbers of all confirmed attendees and the SMS’s on Friday night it became clear that this was going to be a meet to remember for all Delhi T-BHP members.

The expected turnout was going to be around 20-30 people and about 15-odd cars and needless to say I was very excited at the prospect of meeting fellow mental asylum runaways!! We had lots of negative responses too due to people being unwell (Wish you all a speedy recovery) one had a broken ankle and another had some loose-tight issues!! and also due to some members being out of the country or being pre-occupied. But all in all it was memorable and the prospects for future Delhi meets look very promising! And to all you nay sayers who said Delhi Meet’s are no-shows please read this report to see what a proper meet is like!! Also as some members have commented most other places have not had a meet as big as this

I am going to switch to a time format now to make things easier for people. To give everyone a little background we were supposed to meet in Noida in front of Hotel Radisson at 3 pm and then meet everyone and check out each other’s rides and then after a short drive move onto a nearby pub to watch the F1 race. Here’s what happened

2:40pm : I am actually hot footing it down from Moradabad since I had to go there on Saturday to finish some urgent work. Fuelled is the first one to reach full 20 mins before time & he gives me a call asking if he’s at the right place and where am I. I was 10 mins away and told him so and then another friend who was coming Prakul (Yellow CR-V) had also reached.

2:50pm I reach there & meet up with Prakul & Fuelled. As we discover later that day Fuelled has by that time indulged deeply into his new hobby i.e. smoking, while waiting for us to arrive!! But introductions done we wait for everyone and till then sit in the CR-V since it’s quiet hot outside. We are amazed to see the visually LOUD or should I say Screaming CR-V is equally loaded with stuff inside as it is outside! It’s got neons, compass, clocks, touch screen Pioneer HU, a very clear SQL audio setup and all kinds of things (To all you guys who have more interest in the car I am arranging for a detailed photo shoot soon).

3:10pm While waiting we see a Silver Swift with HUGE alloys on the opposite side of the road and guessing by the alloys guess that’s it’s a T-BHPian and as it turns out it is actually LBM who has turned up with a friend of his Meisterstuck. Introductions done I remember that he had said his car had a decent audio setup so I demand to see it and am very surprised to see his boot containing two Premier subwoofers in enclosures running on two Alpine V12 amps among other things. The damn system is so loud as to shake the whole tail gate glass and wiper when you play it loud!! Then the attention turns to his tyres he’s running 215/40 R17 and I am wondering how the tyres survive on our roads and then LBM tells us that he has already run through 6 tyres! Turns out I wasn’t wrong in my calculations regarding Low-profiles in India!!! And lest I forget he also has two small strips of Black tape on his rear rims so we ask him what they are for and he says they are there so that "Nazar naa lage"! LBM also shows us the Xenon head lamps he has in his Swift and have to admit they look really cool but since LBM left before it was dark we couldn't see them in the night properly.

3:30pm Then Tanveer arrives in his no-mod Indica (booo) and points out he has different than standard tyres (hehehe) and the discussion shifts to various things and suddenly we have a flurry of cars arriving including Iknowthisguy in his Palio, Tarun in his Getz and aZa and Caroholic in the Red Santro with the Indian Porn in the boot!!! More introductions follow along with more checking out of each other’s rides.

aZa ride seems to be too clean so intense questioning has him admitting that he spent a lot of last evening cleaning her up for the meet LOL! But the car looks great and as I mentioned earlier too has very clean Chrome alloys with Ferrari centre badges! Also he has strobes in his rear lights which are very cool!

We then proceed to check out the CR-V and it polarises opinion like no other!! Some absolutely love it & some absolutely hate it! But it definetely elicits a reaction. General consensus is that the paint job is very good but the colour really really polarises opinions. It also has a nice sound system the clarity of which is appreciated by all present. Then the focus shifts to my car and I am asked to rev her up and seems everyone likes the Exhaust note and Paint job.

Amazingly, and I have to mention this there are members present there like Fuelled, Iknowthisguy, V.Tec, tsk & Tarun whose cars are pretty much standard! No mods what so ever, waste of oppurtunity I say

Few of the cars:

After this V.tec arrives in his NHC VTEC accompanied by a friend and is followed by dhirajs in our friend Abhishek’s Accent CRDi. By now we have a motley crew of people assembled and there’s lot of discussion going on with lots of advice being exchanged. A few jokes are also cracked at the expense of the member's who cancelled their plans (Yes, Naveen we were referring to you, there was lot of talk about loosening & tightening things going on there!!!) A crowd has also begun to aseemble around us to check out what the hell is going on. Lots of cars, buses and two-wheelers are stopping/slowing down to see what is going on!

4:00pm After about 15 mins we decide to call up the remaining people who are confirmed for the meet and turns out about 4 more people are expected so we wait a little longer and are soon joined by a4_attitude in his SERA. His car quickly grabs attention due to its shape and turns out it is also running a large Conical air filter & a Free-Flow exhaust which make it sound very nice!! Speedofreak also turns up in his Green Swift along with a friend. Remaining people were rev_hard, hellspawn & a few other members who were running late.

Now it was getting very hot out in the sun so a decision was taken to push off to Greater Noida and tell the other members to join us there. Tsk decides he's going to ride with Tarun as he wants to take pictures so we leave his Indica in the parking lot and push off. The plan was to drive down to Greater Noida and do a small photoshoot and them move on the Chicane to watch the F1 race.

Hope you enjoyed the report rest to come in following posts.

P.S. Thanks to tsk1979 for most of the great photographs!!!

Meet documentry with pics..

I guess I will let the pics do the talking.
Every pic tells a story
The gallery is http://tanveer.smugmug.com/gallery/1394026, you can add comments to the pics if you want
So here goes
The Interest people showed in the cars. Quiet a crowd gathered which included lots of Homo Sapiens and one Monkey(Sorry no pic)

The Sera was the most popular of the lot, here she is. Looks like a4 never heard of Parallel parking

There was some comfusion when we started from the original meet points. So everybody stopped at the expressway for everybody to regroup.

The only bad spot at the expressway. Though no adventures from us, it appears somebody left a lot of rubber.

With Empty roads, everybody took off! Including Ishan(Iraghava) who after some sedateness thought about taking off

Speedo touching 160, and Ishan overtaking from the left. He was on fire

Almost near the destination(Greater Noida). couldnt get the pics, as camera was off with lens cap on! But mr 180kmph suddenly saw that a truck driver has decided to come perpendicular to the traffic. Smoking tyres and lot of noise alerted the truck(who had been ignoring frantic horns) and from the small gap iraghava sails through! The only scary moment of the drive, considering he was barely 50 meters from us.
At the destination took the group photo of the cars and the drivers. Missing are the Sera(Dont know where mr A4 vanished), The black zen and the black indica(I took the ride with Tarun in his red Getz).

The lovely Black Zen

Finally time to go back and watch the race

Some pics of chicane

After chicane most people left, and the few of us
Hellspawn and his gf , caroholic, tsk1979, iraghava and aZa stayed back for pizza hut. Could not get any pics of the dust storm. But lots of lightning, thunder and dust flying about had us scurrying for cover.
