I drives through this route twice a month to go home (Vadakara). The distance is exactly 355 kms from Bangalore (ITPL) to my home. It will be an extra 12 kms to Mahe. For an afternoon start it normally takes 7-8 hours with one break. I have given an account on the road conditions and traffic as per my experience:
Bangalore to Hunsur - Excellent 4-line roads till Bilikere(14 kms before Hunsur). Heavy to moderate traffic between Bangalore-Mysore. Moderate traffic between Mysore to Hunsur. The deviation from Srirangapatana to Elivala is not in good condition. Stick on the Mysore route and take a right at the Columbia Asia Hospital junction(Ring Road).
Hunsur to Nagerhole Forest Check post - Good roads with sparse traffic.
Nagerhole Forest Entry to Kutta- The road inside is in good condition for the first 10 kms. After that the road deteriorates with occasional bad patches and speed breakers as you enter the buffer area. Nothing much to worry, there are no big potholes.
Kutta to Mananthavady - The road is really bad for 3 kms from Kutta Forest check post/police station to Kerala border. Excellent roads afterwards through forest. This is the most enjoyable stretch in this route.
Mananthavady to Niravilpuzha - The roads are of mixed type. There are occasional bad patches. Look out for the unmarked humps near schools and inside towns.
Niravilpuzha to Kuttiyadi - The road condition completely changes as you enter Kozhikode district at Niravilpuzha. The road is recently relaid and well marked. The ghat section is really enjoyable as the road is good with less traffic.
Kuttiyadi to Nadapuram - The first 3 kms after Kuttiyadi is really bad. The road work is going. There are some bad section between Kallachi and Nadapuram which was already mentioned by Lalu.
Nadapuram to Mahe - Excellent roads till Peringathur. Not sure about the road conditions in the route Peringathoor-Chokli-Mahe.
The eatery options are very less in between Hunsur to Mananthavady. There is a resort between Kutta and Mananthavady (2 kms after Kattikulam) which serves good food, the lunch can be planned here.
I never got a chance to join any of the Meets, Will be really happy to join you guys if it's happening on 16/17
