Tri-State Meet (AP, KA & TN) @ Horsley Hills, AP

Hey Folks,

Where: APTDC, Horsley Hills, AP
When: July
Who: Hyd, Blr, Chennai - others are welcome to join

So at a recent Chennai Team-BHP dinner, we discussed the idea of a tri-state meet at a centre, where members of these 3 states can drive down in their cars, and we can spend a good weekend at a nice place.
After some discussion it seems like Horsley Hills in AP is a good meeting point.

I have been here, and have driven here from Hyd, Chennai and Bangalore. There is a big APTDC resort here, which if we book early and instruct them about food and drink, is quite decent. Lot of parking space, and bungalow type of accomodation. The weather in July will vary from 18-28C. It is a very nice resort, with heavy greenery, great views and forests on all sides.

Last but not the least, the final ghat climb is awesome, with almost zero traffic, so you can really attack the bends.

The Drive:
Hyd - Around 520 kms/6.5 hours. Most of it is on the BLR highway so you can maintain good speeds. rest of the roads via Anantapur -Kadiri also are good.
Chennai - Around 270 kms/4 hours. Around 100km on 4 lane highway, rest of the roads are good
Bangalore - 180 km /3.5 hours. roads near rail crossings were under construction last year, if this is done, should be nice albeit narrow roads throughout

Given the fact that it is a government guesthouse, we need to be sure of numbers etc. and give an advance and all. So we really need to get a move on folks.

Suggestions are welcome. Let the discussions begin.

Not really an epi-center, is it? I doubt if hydeez will show any interest considering the distance and difference from KA and TN

Besides, we like day drives and avoid staying overnight.

There really is no other option I could think off, and I have traveled extensively in all these parts. Cuddapah is the actual epi-centre, but then the roads and hotels over there are quite bad.

The good thing is that Hyderabadis get to drive for 70% of the time on the Blr highway. The amount of time spent on single lane highways is more or less the same for all.

Time-wise, Hyd people will take double of Blr, and 2 hours more than Chennai folks.

FYI, the above is wrt my post # 322 in Re: The 2013 Hyderabad Meets Thread : MEGA Hyd-Bangalore Drive Meet_ March 24th, 2013.

Reverting to this thread, if the Horsely Hills drive materialises in the third weekend of July, I should be able to join.

I've added my name to the list. July weather should be decent. If it is an overnighter then a weekend would be best.

Hi, request this be planned any weekend other than 6,7 July as there is an offroad event planned that weekend :-). I can make it for sure if its a single day drive.
