The place is somewhere near here : N 10.015925, E 076.938436

The place has good ambience and pretty nice for a stop over with family. Food quality was average though.
Frankly speaking, in my last two trips to Munnar recently, I haven't had good food anywhere.
When I visited Munnar somewhere in 2008, I had tasty food from the roadside shops at Munnar town.
"Thattu kadas" that is.

We had a mega mini meet on 29th of December with a turn out of 12 cars.
Had a healthy discussion about the drive plans and feasibility.

Since kodai looked too optimistic to be covered within two days, we made some changes to the plan.
The latest plan is as detailed below:

Date: 01 & 02 Feb
Venue: Wagamon & Parunthumpara

Outline plan:
Start drive to Wagamon early morning 01 Feb.
Reach Wagamon/ resort for lunch.
See around Wagamon in the evening.
Camp fire and dinner at resort.

02 Feb:
Morning time is for lazing around or roaming around as per convenience
Post lunch, drive to Parunthumpara.
Start the drive back from Parunthumpara at around 1700 Hrs.

Reach Kochi by 2100 hrs.

Planning of route, drive around and places to visit: responsibility has been entrusted to Aswin_ajith.
Accomodation has not been finalised.
Mistakenguy had shown considerable interest in co-ordinating that end.

Suggestions always welcome.
Also, please update the attendees list

Couple of points.

1) Start early, say meet up and leave by 7am
2) Expected time of arrival - say 11pm or 12pm
3) Check in at the resort, have lunch.
4) Leave resort by 3pm for a quick sight seeing
5) Return by 5 or 6pm
6) Camp fire and other activities in the resort (something that we badly missed last time and I dont want to miss it this time )

7) Have breakfast and lunch at the resort and drive to Parunthumpara.
8) Back to cochin in the evening.

Confirmed Entries:
1) naveen.raju+1

Re: Team-BHP Meet & Drive - Kochi

Hello guys, a happy new year to everyone.
Updating the thread with the route details. Suggestions welcome.
Feb1st Morning : Everyone can assemble in some place at Tripunithura. I LL suggest in front of the passport office opposite karingachira church , which is the tripunithura end of the seaport airport road.
please note, we have to depart ATLEAST by 0730 . We are taking the Muvattupuzha route via thiruvankulam->puthenkurish->kolencherry. Turn right at Muvattupuzha junction traffic signal and enter, the 4 lane high way to Thodupuzha. Expected arrival at Thodupuzha is 0840.

From there we can take the Moolamattom route via Kanjar to reach vagamonby 0930 which is in pristine condition and is an absolute pleasure to drive on. However I am apprehensive of the road condition while we close in on vagamon. Will update later on that one.

Return trip. Assuming we are starting frrom parunthumpara, we can take the Mundakkayam route to reach pala town via Kanjirapilly and then to cochin via the Ramapuram-> koothattukulam -> piravom. Roads are good for most parts on these stretches AFAIK. From piravom its going to be tripunithura->cochin.
Breakfast in the morning can be had from Hotel Ceylon, opp. Municipal civil station. Was suggested this Restaurant by some of my college mates who are from Thodupuzha.

Thats it with the routes !! Thank you.

Hey Aswin,

First of all, thanks for running through the overall plan. Few pennies from my side.
  • Roads from Thodupuzha till Moolamattom is breeze. However there are two routes to Vagamon from Idukki road. One is via Elaveezhapoonchira (take right just before Kanjar junction after the road dip). Second one via Moolamattom (take right after KSRTC bus stand) and is frequented by KSRTC Venad buses. We need to take the latest update on road condition after rains before finalizing which one to take. Both are narrow and steep but scenic .
  • There is a restaurant (no frills but clean) after Kanjar town in the banks of Malankara water front (where Movies like Rasatanthram are shot). Its not a crowded place and we can do some sort of photoshoot etc if needed.

You can reach Pala via either Ponkunnam or Erattupetta (turning point will be Kanjirappally). I suggest the Erattupetta route as the Ponkunnam route will be quite bouncy till Pala.

Yes. Let me see. I LL try and update about the road condition. That restaurant would be great. So we can skip our stop at Thodupuzha town. We can take the road which is in,better condition of the.two. If we take the Elaveezhapoonjira route, may be there's scope for a short stop at Elaveezhapoonjira.

Assuming you are talking about the Theekoyi Poonjar Erattupetta route, Arent there chances of encountering fog while coming down the hill late in the evening. Just a thought.
