Re: 2013 Monsoon Drives

Good that you guys have an alternate route also. Just incase of heavy traffic, bad roads etc you know which 'other' road to take.

One more word of caution to everyone.

A lot of people get into the waterfall to have a nice jolly time. However at times rocks also slides down alongwith the water and its very dangerous. I had been to Malshej in 2006 or 2007 alongwith my MBA group. One got away with a torn ligament on his hand near the fingers, one with a torn ligament on his ankle however one of the person got hit exactly on his thigh and knee. It was a torrid time as there is no medical facility and there were only 2 cops standing there but not ready to help or even offer assistance.

I know this is OT but please keep this in mind. Have fun.

Revised list below

8) Fiat Punto MJD = Ghodlur (Surprise, Surprise) with family.
9) Parrys (With 1 or 2 non-BHPian biker friends)

Tentative
1) Ikonic = MX6 with family

Road near Mahape naka is pathetic. Road from Shil phata towards Kalyan is alright except a few big craters. From Kalyan side, I.e. Ranjnoli naka till Kalyan, expect decent roads with decent numbers of potholes.

Re: 2013 Monsoon Drives

Guys - bad news. Due to Landslide at Malshej, NH222 is blocked until Saturday-

Are we risking it on Sunday?

The report says "The official has appealed people to avoid journey on this route till Saturday morning till debris not get clear from the road."
So I guess it will be ok.
If it is still not cleared by Sunday Morning then we will do the Lonavala Drive on 28th and got to Malshej Ghat next Sunday.
Anyways this thread was for the two Monsoon Drives. So depending on the situation we proceed on to either drives.
We have Plan A, but we also have Plan B, C, D...

Re: 2013 Monsoon Drives

Good that there are options for drive. Not to deter but just to make you guys aware, there have been recent cases of Lonavala when people had to spend hours in traffic jam there and it took 5-6 hours to/from Lonavala. So be ready for that traffic just in case. Just hope the Malshej ghat clears for those joining in this drive, especially since it is reported that the waterfall stretch itself is affected due to this. Best of Luck guys.

Alright guys.
A lot of people are telling me to check the status at Malshej Ghat before we go.
They saying the roads me not be cleared before Sunday. Someone who can confirm this would be good.
I need to know so that I can work on the alternate plans.
Lonavala being a traffic prone area need to check on the place to go there. A friend owns a bungalow there and he said can accommodate 10-12 cars for parking.

Please someone reply so that we can swap the venue and dates.

As per Mumbai Hiker post on FB, they mentioned to check with Tokawade police station. This place is before Malshej ghat at the start of Naneghat trek. I am trying to get hold of contact number of that police station.

Hopefully it might help.

When it comes to weekends, Malshej Ghat or Lonavala or any other place will be crowded.

But given the situation at Malshej Ghat, I feel it will be better to go to Lonavala. Anyways, none of us are interested in going to traffic prone areas of Lonavala like Bhushi Dam or Tiger Point.

Especially with families & kids, I do not feel it is worth going to Malshej Ghat. Lonavala seems to be a better option where food & other basic facilities are easily accessable.

Thanks,

Re: 2013 Monsoon Drives

Just checked with the Tokawade Police station on the NH 222 road clearance update, they confirmed that it might take a day or two to clear the debris since the stones which have come off are huge in size.

The contact details of the police station are 02524-242020/242100 (former one working fine). A status update can be obtained maybe Sat evening or Sunday early morning and then the next plan can be thought of.

Re: 2013 Monsoon Drives

If Malshejghat doesn't work out due to route problems, here are 2 more options:

Mulshi:

Bhandardhara:

Re: 2013 Monsoon Drives

Here's my suggestion.

If lonavala, we can just go over to sunny's or tonys for lunch after a leisurely drive.

If Malshej, then we can think of next weekend.

Am ok with Mulshi as well.

Leave the decision to the majority here.

Re: 2013 Monsoon Drives

Guys,

Can I suggest an alternative (if Malshej ghat drive gets jinxed). Had heard about this place from a few friends but long time back. Its a lake resort near Shahpur around 60 kms from Thane. We all know the NH3 is good enough for a drive. Link of the resort attached. And expecting the resort to have sufficient parking spaces too. If interested maybe we can call & confirm. This resort would also suit to the families.

Re: 2013 Monsoon Drives

When are we going to finalize the route / destination?

Is Malshej still on?
Because if you guys decide Pune or the likes, we bikers cannot ride along. (Not allowed on the expressway)
