Alright! So with the poll now closed, 18th Jan seems to be the popular choice with our mates here!! Now let's quickly discuss the venue options and float another poll if possible so that this is finalised as well! 18th Jan is just around the corner!!

Guys, we have to finalize on the venue as well. Till today, I don't see anything concrete coming on that front. Little point in finalizing the date if the venue is not in line by then. Can we get to a consensus on the venue in next one week at least?

OK, can you post the options here in any case till the mods create the poll?

A couple of quick questions, though they may have been asked and answered previously, just to sum up the general mood:

1. How many kilometers are we willing to drive, both ways?
2. How much time are we willing to spend for the drive both ways?

If you see the maps, the best options to minimize both distance and time for both Mumbai and Pune groups lie along the NH4.

If willing to drive farther and longer, on one hand is the Goa highway and the other is the Nashik highway. These would typically be a 5+ hours of driving both ways, assuming an early start and so no traffic on one of the legs. Here the best options would be Bhandardara or Ghatghar dams or the beaches near Alibaug (more driving).

The third option is to pick a place closer to one of the cities: Mahabaleshwar, for e.g. which will be closer to Pune team but farther for Mumbai guys. Could be the other way round if we picked something near Mumbai.

List of venues:

(Arranged in order of my preference, top ones most liked)
1. Daman (mostly calls for a two-day trip, bit farther for pune guys)
2. Alibag-Mandwa or scenic route towards Kashid / Murud-Janjira (almost same distance for mumbai-pune guys)
For Sr.No.2, Low GC vehicles please take note as vehicles may scrape many of the speed-breakers on this route.
3. Nashik - Sula Wineries (can be considered)
4. Karnala Sanctuary (along Panvel-Pen route NH17, will have to trek up-hill)
5. Bhandardara (as suggested above)
6. Pachgani-Mahabaleshwar (very common, congested and point-point :P)
7. Usual mid-point - Amby Valley Plateaus / Pawana Dam

Let's start adding locations to the above list and start polling!

By Karnala santuary do you mean the actual fort? I doubt many will be up for a trek after a long drive (a small Pune group actually did that hike quite some years ago - eh sukiwa? )

I did mean the actual fort. But even the trek route is quite scenic and going half-way is also perfectly acceptable

Do not know of many places in and around Igatpuri. Would be great if some one adds them here. Waiting for the final list / poll to be put up

I am not sure what is happening with this thread and where the meet is heading. Is their any progress on the venue part? Is the meet still on because for last week and half there is no activity here.
