Re: Quick Meets at Bangalore

Thank you SuhasManjunath and Nerd1200 (Deb) for organizing the great meet and Test Drive of the Kias.
It was wonderful how the owner of the Kia Showroom, Mr Kishore (if i am not mistaken) gave us a personal tour of the site.
Along with all the Kias we also got some eye candy , the 718 Cayman.

Following the Test drive we headed for a lunch @Acre.
As usual it was a fun fill meet, till the next time, Drive Safe.

Here are a few pics from my end.

The Meeting point 9:50 am, Hebbal

Nice pics, guys. But request: Please do practice social distancing & wear your masks . Dangerous times out there. Best way to have a Team-BHP Meet right now would be:

- Driving solo (or with your family members in the car only).

- Meet in the open. Say, a big parking lot?

- Wear mask at all times.

- Stand minimum of 6 feet away and talk cars .

- Avoid large gatherings, especially if the local city / state laws prohibit the same. Even a meet of 4 car guys can be a lot of fun.

Thanks for the support & understanding.

Re: Quick Meets at Bangalore

Thank you nerd1200 and SuhasManjunath for an awesome meetup.

As Sudarsan sir posted, bad weather could not keep a bunch of petrol heads away from the road. Met some lovely bhpians after a long time, and it was just an extremely well spent Saturday for me.

Want to apologize to everybody here for leaving early and unexpectedly as I had to rush home for a personal emergency

Had a TD of the Sonet 1.5 CRDI AT. I drive a 1.5 GT TDI and have an Ameo 1.5 TDI DSG in family. Although its not a direct/logical comparison, here are my findings:
  1. Although Sonet 1,5 CRDI AT has a similar 250 NM torque, it seldom feels like that. It is not slow for sure, but not as quick as the 1.5 TDI engines from VW.
  2. The Kia's CRDI engine is very refined, but somehow felt it was not as free revving as the TDI engines.
  3. The AT in CRDI Sonet is a Torque Converter and is pretty good. But obviously, it is not as quick as the DSG.
  4. Sonet does not offer rake adjustment on any of its variants. This is a huge bummer as this one feature helps me find my best driving position on any of the VW cars.
  5. Call me old school but I just love Analog rev counter. Although Sonet still has this, the digital speedometer looks very "Bike=ish" and feels weird.
  6. The A and B pedals felt a bit too high for me, which left me with ankle pain after a long-ish TD.
  7. The seat height adjustment lever was very hard and I found it quite difficult to operate. Might just be the car that I was driving!

IMO Sonet Diesel AT has a much better styling than Venue and even the new Creta. Considering the fact that it has the exact same engine and tune across these 3 (in CRDI 115PS avatar), my pick is Kia Sonet. However, I think it is priced 60-80K more than what it should have.
And I believe this is still an introductory price which must only go northwards!!

Thanks for sharing your first experience with Sonet. This would help many if the same is updated in the Sonet thread.

Great Meet and the most important piece was the way this meet was planned and handled to ensure Safety and hygiene for all participants.

I am certain that the Kia Sonet iMT will be a favourite for the masses due to its intuitive manual gear shifts without the clutch pedal. It was indeed fun to drive the vehicle, wish it had Hill Hold function for those flyover crawl out that him station drive.
The Bose music system delivers punchy sound and felt much better than the Harmon Kardon system in The Carnival.

Overall a great meet with some delectable food to fill the hungry bhpians.

PS: Pls ignore the picture orientation
