Yes, this will be an amazing fun. This drive is featured in this video:

This gives an idea of what to expect. Certainly a lot of fun, especially for the RWD cars :-)

Well said, and I totally agree with you. I love driving the 320d, but one thing that I still miss is shifting gears manually. Exactly as you said, my left hands screams out for a manual gearbox when I am in the middle of any spirited driving.

That said, this will be a great opportunity to use the paddle shifters. I am sure I will be in M mode and playing around with the paddle shifters to get the rush. Working with the paddles in quick succession is a different kind of fun altogether. Overall, should be a fun drive. Looking forward to it.

Why not? Recently, in one of my drivers, I had an Eon following me in a Covoy, and it was not so bad. I don't think anyone can really go very fast in these hairpins anyway. Eon might take some time to climb, but it can surely climb.

Re: Team-BHP Meet @ Kolli Hills : 22nd & 23rd June, 2019

Question -

If the resort is open to having more visitors for lunch, some of us (like me unfortunately. Not able to stay overnight that weekend) would be interested to join and return the same day post lunch and some round of catching up.

Possible?

If not - would like to join you guys till Radisson.

This is going to be such an ecstatic drive. I wish I was in Bangalore around that time.

Brother, that very car conquered Mulliyanagiri with 4 of us on board. Should be a piece of cake on paved roads. It might not be high on power and torque, but it's fun pushing it up the hills. Go for it!!

I have done the drive up to Ooty (36 hairpin bends) in an Omni, so the Eon should deal with it peacefully. Plus modern cars are more than capable of handling the stresses involved in such types of driving. Do not even think about whether the car can handle the road. More pertinent will be whether the driver can handle the road

Forget manual transmission + RWD. Kolli malla is best served on two wheels.

Wow, another well-planned meet from you .

Who is going to carry a drone camera, would that be you Robi?

Small request: Whoever is going to shoot via drone, ask that car to start for the hill ahead of others so that drone photo/video of rest of convoy can be taken on curves, would be a treat to watch.

Re: Team-BHP Meet @ Kolli Hills : 22nd & 23rd June, 2019

Wow, This is a fun coincidence. I am currently in Kolli Hills and in the same resort.

I wasn't aware that this thread was up until I ran into Sumanth (Sumzup) at Attibele toll plaza yesterday (he was right behind me and anyone can recognize his Yeti due to his unique auxillary lights' setup). It was nice catching up with him after a long time.

The drive to the top is real fun, especially in the 1.8 TSI Laura with the slick Manual gearbox!! Although I should request everyone to be extra careful since the roads are quite narrow in some bends and this being a double lane road, has the menace of cars, bikes or buses racing down from up top. Obviously most of them are not familiar with "Right of way" notion. Also, in 3 places gMaps suggested us to take shortcuts - which were really bad roads (sometimes no roads) and should be avoided. I'll try to post snapshots of those routes from gMaps and post it here.

Regarding the resort, it's good - has clean rooms and washrooms, a nice terrace garden type of setup and an indoor game room. As of now parking space is limited since they're mounting a wind turbine, but it should be done by 22nd I presume. And finally, mobile network is available only for JIO, Reliance and CellOne. My friends and I are mostly offline since yesterday (Airtel, Vodafone have no coverage). There's complimentary JioFi available, however it's limited to the reception lobby only.

I'll be able to confirm my participation, of course subject to availability, by next week. If not all the way, I'll join upto Radisson, Salem.

Here are some pics to get you excited.

Oxy/iceman sh(r)ed your tentativeness and bite the tarmac with your ride on this drive.

FYI: Our protégé, Akshay, who joined us with his new ride for the first ever OverKnighter in 2013, is doing us proud burning rubber in the US of A.

Akshay's (tor)MENTORs ~ both are in this drive.

They would be delighted to teach you'll more than a trick or two to hone your driving skills.

Your call to buckle up.

Cheers
