so we are going to have chinese? good! IMO the only GOOD roadside chinese food joint will be @ Golpark - Fresh'n'Up beside Aminia. the food is delicious - but no booz. but we can always go to a watering hole later. you can also tryout the roadside chinese food joints @ Camac Street, Dalhousie (office para)

Mainland China is like a place where the food is very good with a lot of show.

authentic bengali food @ 13 Parbon (golpark), Oh! Calcutta (Forum, Elgin Rd), Bhojo Hari Manna (near Gariahat), 6 Ballygunge Place (@ 6, Ballygaunge Place).

if we are planning for the usual drive + food (w/o booz) - we can always go to: Sher-e-Punjab, Sanjha Chulha, Sharma's, Azad-Hind,

If you are an early riser, you could try a variety of chinese dumplings for breakfast in old Chinatown behind Poddar Court. I think this market is open only on Sat & Sun & by 7 am many of the popular dishes are sold out.
You might also find a visit to the nearby Ma Konyam (? Chinese Durga) Temple interesting.

Another great Chinese joint is Marco Polo in China. That's where the old Waldorf used to be. Mainland China is also very good. But these are the more swanky joints, although not as costly as they appear from the outside.
The levels of Tangra have gone down somewhat, but some are still pretty good, and very reasonable.
I'm cool with Tangra and the "swanky" places.

@planet: let's make this more of a drinks/dinner meet rather than a drive. we haven't sat and had an "adda" session in a while!

Oh man. You still haven't seen Phoenix!
When? How about Sat (27th) evening?

Where? Since Gogi's partial towards Tangra, let's go to a Tangra joint. Quite a few options there.
Basic Requirements:
1. Approach road should be in decent shape
2. Lots of parking space
3. Decent food + booze

I think the place where we had our first Cal meet would qualify (don't remember the name), but other suggestions are welcome.

Let's get some suggestions and confirmations in.

Confirmed:
1. V-16
2. Razor

Oye, Chinese restaurants dont have Oak's in their name. What they have is similar sounding, from a Bengali perspective, "Wok".

Moreover How can some place as hot as Tangra have a joint with "Village" in its name? The name is Hot Wok.

Sorry for joining in late guys...
Didn't have chance to open aup t-bhp in the last few days.
I'll try to make it if not caught up in office again.

Just one point to share. tangra will not be the ideal place for dinner as parking woould really be a huge problem and the approach rods are jam packed on the weekends. If its lunch, Beijing should be the good choice as it has an underground parking lot now and offers valet parking facilities.

Have anyone tried Kafulok? Its a bit deep seated in tangra but undoubtedly one of the best. It has a special mention in NDTVcooks.com also. I have tried the food there its really good. Parking has to be done along the road in front of it. 7-8 cars shouldn't be problem.

He he!! The name of this restaurant is even translated to bengali on the hoarding "GOROM KORAI". HE! HE!

1100D.Remember the mongolian buffet we had at Indianapolis. It was really good too. There was a $7 Chinese buffet near beechmill farm too, if Iam not wrong. We even had food there.

Information for Sir Gogi.

There is a blue W123 (My favourite Merc, not surprisingly) that stays parked on the footpath at Quality in Saltlake. The car was fast loosing trim bits and used to be parked underneath the blazing sun, moon and stars. However, last I saw her, she was still holding up without any rust.

May be someday.....! (Sigh)

Why not a 124? They seem to be cheaper in Kolkata than Mumbai. Shuvd can give you some leads

For a old-school Merc lover's gallery, the W123 is conspicuous by its absence here.

However Gogi bhai may actually do with a Pre - "class" designated W124.

The differences are subtle but really nice. (For example the curve on the bootlid)
