Massanjore is 48Kms(read somewhere else that its around 78kms) from Bolpur - its somewhere near Jharkhand and West Bengal border.

Masanjore is about 20-25km from Siuri. On NH60 after crossing Tilpara barrage in about another 10km there is a left turn for Masanjore (Dumka/Deoghar route)

The First pic in the series is not the Siuri Messanjore stretch.

However the First few km's after branching off from Siuri was pathetic in most of the times we have gone there.

The Rest of the road was earlier pathetic too.

What was the "high CR" (read: shaved head) doing in an Amby?

The DVC guest house here too, is on top of a hill overlooking the reservoir, needless to say, the zig zag climb it offers, although for a 100 meters or so is fantastic. Although that is beaten by the mound-climb one has to do at Maithon.

sorry for not replying earlier... Messanjore should be around 275-280 Kms from Kolkata. One has to take a right turn at Panagarh (150 Km). Take the left road at Illambazaar (The right one goes to Bolpur/Shantiniketan). After reaching Siuri one has to take a left turn towards Messanjore.

Yup, the first pic was on the Bakreshwar-Siuri stretch. I was driving my Father-in-Law's diesel amby provided by his office. I used to drive that amby quite a lot whenever I went to Bakreshwar .

the roads are bad? but the stretch till Ilambazar was pretty good - but the roads from there till bolpur was a bit gaddafied.

in anycase - if most of the guys are in - i am game for it.

but we gotto know whether we are going spend the night there or not & how many of us are game?

how about a mini meet at Sher-e-Punjab on 3rd/4th May?

Spending the night will not be possible for me... if we go to Messanjore then we have to start at 6 'o' clock and reach there by 10-10:30. Spend 5 to 6 hours there and start the return journey at 3:30 p.m and reach home by around 9 p.m.
If we go to Shankarpur, we can start much later as it hardly takes 2 and half to 3 hours to reach there. I am sure most of us have gone to Shankarpur more than once, in that sense Messanjore would be relatively new place.

Advantages of Messanjore -
1. Relatively newer place for most of us
2. Longer journey than Shankarpur on excellent roads

Disadvantages-
1. Will be hotter than Shankarpur
2. No good place to eat
3. Not much to do once reaching there

IMHO the main attraction of going to Messanjore would be the drive, apart from that Shankarpur is a better place to spend time.

Could we have a proper update on the road condition to Massenjore please?
@ TheBagchi - Why wouldn't bikers be allowed?

Road is good throughout. I did it in early 2006 and it was freshly laid and I was doing 100kmph in Matiz on the Dumka highway with full load.
I dont think it will detoriate that much that you cannot drive.

No Probs, Take your Octy, who knows, probably you will reach Masanjore in 2 hours

My 2paisa: Spending 5-6hours there is a challenge. There is nothing to do other than take a walk on the barrage and little forward. I would suggest go to Massanjor early morning and while return go to bakreshwar and have a nice hot stream bath. It is on the way. You will pass through a place called Kochu-jor. Stop by and enjoy the Singara alongwith the misti's!! It is very tasty
Kochujor is famous for its Singara and Jilebi.

Both are wrong !!

Correct Route:
Kolkata - Barddhaman - Panagarh - DarjeelingMore - Ilambazaar - Siuri - Raneswar - Massanjor

You dont require to detour either to Asansol or to Bolpur to to go to Siuri.
