Kolkata Meet - May 2008

well well - its been a loooong time since we met - i dont even remember most of your faces . and i am eager to get to know all of you guys again. only couple of meets were fun in terms of letting our cars do the talking (remember Santiniketan drive, Raid de Rajarhat, Rudra da espeshal, rocker in dhoti meet?)

so how about another meet? - we have a whole lot members from kolkata whom we havent yet met, some of the members were/are one timers - i mean its ok that you didnt like our company but at the end of the day there is no harm in socializing! i think we are a bunch of car freaks - arent we?

so let your fingers do the talking now and come up with your ideas. we can plan for a drive + meat Meet or it can be a adda type of meet.

couple of days back, i was at Sector V for a training and i met shuvc on his way back home and he suggested that we should plan for a drive + adda Meet - so how about a small drive to Phalta(??)? i guess it takes only 1.5Hours(max) from Kolkata - i drive will be fairly enjoyable (read: no speed tests, wagera wagera) we can leave by 8 am and come back home by 5 pm.

take care and drive safe.

gr8 thoughts planet. we really need to meet often and have a great time.

Well i'm in. Saturdays or sundays.

I'll again have to hitch a ride. any takers.

i suppose lets figure when we can have the maximum no. of members rather than hurry up a meet.

no problem. two of the one-timers stay at behala - if they are coming for the meet you can tag along with any one of them or else you will have to come down somewhere and you can tag along with any one of us.

lets hope for the best - Mini Meets are fun as well - the last meet (shuvd and me went to taj bengal and had a blast checking out the F430, the Fiat Bravo and the Scagliettis) was great .

"Falta" is where you get tennis rackets pretty cheap.

Falta is somewhere nearby Diamond Harbour / Raichak, Radisson Fort. i have been there (Diamond Harbour) a couple of years back with Planet & ETC. the roads were pretty good (less gaddas) - the roads get less conjested after IIM, Calcutta. she was cruising at 80+KPH and all of a sudden "kkaaabboooom" - one of the 4 baldy tyres went kaput.

if you have any other ideas please tell us.

i am sure all of you guys know about AKRoy's visit to Kolkata in May. i will go to his daughter's "mukhe bhaat". i have forwarded the details to your mail.

I think it's bad road, no go for all of us. What alternatives do we have to Falta? The requirements are decent roads and within a couple of hours of cal.
IIRC the road to Falta (I was going to Raichak) was decent, ie motorable but in no way pleasurable to drive on.The best part was the avenue leading from the main road towards raichak. Ok road but was very pretty, with trees lining both sides. We could also consider one of the resorts in Diamond Harbour or Raichak.

Raichak roads, even if decent are not meant for spirited driving. Why not Shankarpur? The SH has some fast corners.. Its just a 180 odd kms away..

ya shankarpur is an awesome idea...i love that road after nandakumar...single lane, lots of curves and with a good car u can manage to keep at 100-120...I remember once BP and some of our old frens went to Shankarpur. Sumitro was driving the Baleno. I managed to get a Lancer. The drive was memorable. Only that BP reached Kolaghat, while returning, 20 mins ahead in time. He drove like a maniac while I was takin pics and appreciating the natural beauty

I am in... Shankarpur is a good option. Or we can go to Maithon also. The distance would be more than Shankarpur but the time taken IMO should be same..

As far as I remember you did not even allow the passengers in your car to drink water as that would slow you down and you also did not allow them to put on the AC... and I have not seen any of the pics that you claim to have taken.... come on everybody knows that it is not possible to keep up with a Baleno with a stock Lancer...
