Behala air field!! IMHO I doubt if they would give in! they don't even let morning walkers come near their premises let alone cars!

But the stretch near shantiniketan looks inviting.. My bad! never knew this existed when I was all this while in Cal.
can't we do this during diwali.. can't make it to Cal before that!

Maybe we can have some good drag's then!

Cheers,
Shrey

This is a section I like !!
Wonderful idea Joseph,we can and should go for a 'real driving' experience. But I would vote for something after the monsoon is over buddy, because almost all roads are in a bad shape and to get the most out of this outing would be in vain in this terrible wet weather.
Indra, thanks for the wonderful suggestion.I personally go to Bolpur,Shantiniketan quite often and I would check out the pros and cons of this airstrip you are suggesting.Due you remember the exact name of this place?Bakkhali would be fun,but then the roads that would lead us to the place are not ok at this time of the year, again because of the rain Gods.

Let all suggestions keep pouring in!

After all the random guess and head scratching I am back with some concrete information. So here goes, A simple Ctrl C + Ctrl V, cant go wrong

"the place is called SURICHUA. take the panagarh-moregram highway (a good one in stretches) to rampurhat. get inside the crowded town, ask for the dumka-rampurhat road. take it, roll past stone quarries for 6-7 kms. ask around for surichua. it'll be on your left. can't miss it."

Have fun now !

Lets have the counts.

Look what I found

Surichua Aerodrome: Unused aerodrome which used in 2nd world war.

Straight line distance (Not road distance) from kolkata : 200 kms

Kolkata T-Bhp Meet August 08-surichua.jpg

Looks great. The two perpendicular straights are 1.8 kms each!

Thanks guys for doing a great job on doing the research.

Honestly speaking going that far for doing drags is not sensible.

I'm still reconfirming that what i was asking for is a good road which has corners so that we can enjoy a drive without killing our cars.

NOS, you don't have to do it the "drag" way its just about having fun together.

If you don't want to go far, I don't know where you would find good roads and "corners" in Kolkata, very very few I can think of - one is a right hander which is on the stretch from Prince Anwar shah road to CRC through that fly over.

Or you can go to Aquatica go karting track.

Whatever you do have fun.

Found another abandoned airstrip. Its near purulia, so its not closer than Surichua...

Chharra Aerodrome

Chharra Aerodrome - Now abandoned - Used between 1943-44 during W W2

p.s. I just found this on Google Earth, I know NOTHING about the place

Today I had been to the Sher-e-Punjab dhaba just beyond Rupnarayan bridge in Kolaghat for a drive with wifey! Nice dhaba, nice food, and the Bombay Road stretch between Kolkata and Kolaghat is nice for a drive,IMO. The only bad stretch in the road is the Kolaghat bridge itself, its horribly maintained and the big crater-like potholes are ghastly. But the National Highway is beautiful and you can see miles ahead and there are some nice 'corners' as NOS says.Lovely for a drive and good food and solid adda. What say guys?

Tomorrow am driving to Bolpur, might as well check out the abandoned aerodrome which Senindra suggested. Will let you all know.

Sorry fellas, was in a rush.Reached Bolpur at about 10ish today morning. The stretch at Panagarh was IMO the worst road of all times.Had work there, came out of Bolpur at 3.15pm,was back home by 8pm.No visit to the aerodrome,so no pics.Would try next weekend if I can though.

who all have confirmed for this meet? what do you guys plan to do?

i will confirm only if something plans out

how about a mini meet? how about an In-city meet?

IMO, for a tbhp drive a LOT of planning is required followed by initiative - period.
