HI Guyz,

My tent coming from Dubai. Why Dubai? Well, my friend was coming to Bangalore this week. Asked my BIL to get a tent and give it to him which will fit 2 people.

He suggested take tent for 4 people that way it will be easy to keep any baggage etc.. + easy to move around <not crampy>

Folks,

I will be going in for the recee this weekend to identify/locate a suitable OTR trail. I will also see what all cooking/kitchen facilities we can use at Chandan's place.

Will post the report and after that we can decide the agenda/timings, route etc.

Meanwhile, let's start planning on what all activities can be done on "Saturday Night"

One option is to cook food ourselves, barbecue, bonfire etc.

See this thread. We did cooking ourselves in an OTR. Should be fun.

For this we should start planning logistics etc (Keeping Saturday Night in Mind).
  • For non veg. we would need marinated chicken etc (Should we carry it with us? or can this be arranged there itself? If we need to carry it, who would take ownership of this. I can't. I am a Vegetarian )
  • Lemon, onions, chaat masaala etc
  • For vegetarians (Me + Wifey are PURE vegetarians, others..) we would need Paneer (or other things) for barbecue
  • Barbecue rods to make paneer tikka/grilled chicken
  • Beer/Booze? Should we carry or arrange it there?
  • etc..
Keep the ideas flowing guys..

PS: Folks who intend on staying elsewhere, PLEASE get your accommodation sorted out.

Here's the info posted again (Chandan had posted this info in post#30 page 2).

--------------------------
Welcome to Swarga Resorts at Kumbarahalli Estate Post, Via Yeslur, (13km from my estate)
Rotti-kallu | Sakleshpur | Karnataka | India (30km)
:: JENKAL :: (30km)
Coffee Valley | Getaway and Homestays (32km)
::: Devagiri Retreat ::: (16km)

Other options include: Hotel Ashritha (Rs 500 approx for a double).
Planters club (Rs 700 to 1800 )
Cosmopolitan club(Rs 300 to 500)
Manjarabad club.
--------------------------

Cheers,

In my opinion, food & drink are best bought locally. Unless it is something exotic. Need company for the weekend recce? I'm free on Sunday

I agree that it would be best to procure food locally; however, this should give folks some idea of what all we would need to procure :-)

Also, if someone is a gifted chef amongst us and would like to try some 'exotic' recipe, please indulge

Have sent you PM about the recee.

Cheers,

Friends,

To make the meet hassle free and fun filled, I am posting the following w.r.t the costing.
Please add if I have missed something here.

Costing (Objective: Simple & fair):
  • Accommodation: People making their own accommodation arrangements elsewhere in resorts/home stay etc will have to pay themselves for the accom. + food + drinks etc for the place where they are staying. This will NOT be shared by rest of the members.
  • No charges towards accommodation for people staying at Chandan's place.
  • Cost of Food: At Chandan's place will be split between ALL the members (Including those staying at other places). There will be NO veg/non-veg split of cost.
    • We would be having lunch + dinner (Saturday) + b'fast + lunch(Sunday) at Chandan's place.
  • Booze: Booze will be procured locally from Sakleshpur and the cost will be split evenly between the 'drinkers'. (Non drinkers will NOT have to pay for the drinks)
  • Other Misc Costs: (Like to the cooking fellow, etc, recee costs) will be split evenly between all the members.
  • Children: below 12 years do not count as members for this meet.
  • Cost of fuel to be borne by members themselves. NO splitting here
Cheers,

For folks driving Jeeps/4x4's

Friends,

If you are driving a jeep/4x4 to the Sakleshpur meet, here is the list of MANDATORY items that you must carry.
  • Tow rope + D-Shackles for towing: This is essential. Don't come without this.
  • Tool box with all spanners etc
  • Do check that your jeep/4x4 has hooks on BOTH front/rear. One should NOT land in a situation that you are stuck and there are NO hooks on your jeep/4x4 to put a tow rope and pull you out.
  • Engine oil, water + other liquids for jeep/4x4 etc

Hi Shannawaz,

First off thanks for all the initiative and breaking down things for us.

My Status is tentative. An old friend from US has landed in Chennai and may get operated shortly. 27th seems like a weekend I may have to go to Chennai.

What I can confirm is that I am okay to stay at Chandra place in a tent/car.

Also I would prefer coming by someones jeep (I am on this thread for the jeep/OTR experience) and splitting fuel costs.
If there are 2-3 people who want to hitch a ride with me, thats the second option.

Also if I do come, someone please please let me use your jeep for some simple stream pass/uphill climb. Dont think I have a nuts for a steep downhill yet.

Isn't it a good idea to get some advance from confirmed members? In that way one do not have to bear the entire expense

Cheers,
Strong nylon ropes will work? if not, from where i will get a ready made tow rope? I need to figure out a good tool kit. Any idea about a good shop? If i need to collect spanners separately, which sizes would be essential? I have tow hook on my Chassis on front left side.
and a one at rear.

Don't worry about that. I will take care of this.

Head to SJP road at Stella Traders, they have 3 ton nylon straps meant to carry & pull, as this will not damage your Jeep, Also get D-Shackles

For toolkit, go to JC road. You will get it there. For spanners, get the full set

If someone has a METRO card or knows someone who has a METRO card, then spanners, hammers etc can be sourced from METRO also. (VERY CHEAP PRICES). I got some stuff for myself.

PS: I forgot to mention that ALL 4x4's (and cars also) should carry jacks and wheel spanners
