Salkeshpur Camping + Off Roading Meet (September 08). Wanna Join?

Friends,

In the last Bangalore T-BHP meet, my self & Chandan (t-bhp member) were discussing the possibility of a Sakleshpur OTR + Camping trip and how wonderful it would be if other T-BHPians (and families) also come along.

So what say folks? here's what the rough idea is. Please pitch in and see if this can be made possible and refined.

The best time would be during the rains, so that gives us some 2-3 weeks for planning and execution.

Dates: (Either of)
  • Weekend of 20/21st Sept
  • Weekend of 27/28th Sept
Plan:
  • Leave Bangalore early morning and reach sakleshpur by noon/early evening.
  • Do some off-roading if possible or people can go trekking or chill out.
  • Start planning for self cooking of food (if everyone stays at the same place)
  • Eat, drink make merry and camp
  • Next morning: Off-roading + drive/sightseeing + whatever else
  • Early Lunch
  • Leave for Bangalore
  • Reach Bangalore by late evening/night

What's available:
Chandan has his cottage in sakleshpur (233 kms from Bangalore) that can provide the following. He will make this available for T-BHPians.

Few details:
  • His cottage is 15 kms from Sakleshpur; on the Somwarpet road
  • Cottage with single room, can accommodate 6-8 people without privacy.
  • Kitchen cum room for about 2 people.
  • 2 man tents -3 of them
  • 3 bath/toilet available
  • If people bring their own tents, then unlimited people can pitch tents & stay. however; if it rains then
  • Car's can easily reach the cottage. the last 1.5kms is kachcha road but no issues.
  • Full fledged kitchen with Gas,fridge, mixie etc is there at Chandans cottage. Basic veg food for about 10-12 people can be easily cooked. Need to find out if somebody nearby can cook for a bigger group. (I would suggest that we all do the cooking ourselves.)
  • Accommodation at Chandans place is free.
  • Food cost will have to be split.
  • Any other expenses have to be calculated (Like if a recee is required, other hotel stay etc etc..).
  • There are other hotels in Sakleshpur -- approx Rs 500 for a double room
  • One of Chandan's friend has a resort 13 kms from his cottage.he is also into OTR's and has agreed to pitch in to find some nice off-roading trails for us.
So folks, pitch in with your ideas and suggestions.

Also :

Will you join? How many people
Which car/bike/suv/4x4?
Which dates work best for you?
Can you bring tents?
Etc..

Cheers,

Hi Khan_Sultan,

Count me + my better half in for this OTR ... 100%

Going crazy looking at your posts abt the OTR near Bangalore. I seriously wanna get a Gypsy for myself and then do the necessary mods after consulting you experts.

Have missed lots of team BHP meets .. as I had to go to Mysore and Coorg every other weekend/ sometimes every weekend for past 6 months due to marriages/visits etc. etc...

I'm in for this OTR and won't miss it for anything. You rock dude!

title should be corrected to sakleshpur. 3 years back we were there offroading on foot, trekking on the abandoned rail track, good memories.

Count me in. Both dates should be fine. I may have to work / go out of town on one of those weekends but will rearrange based on the final OTR date.

Oh!! that equates to: You having mid term exams .
I can visualize you and your son studying together for exams.

Best of luck Sharath for the 'exams' buddy. See if you can sneak in alone also somehow. would be fun.

Cheers,
Shahnawaz

Khan Sultan, Count me in, this is a lovely idea, I was planning a Coorg trip any ways as this is the best time to be in coorg. I can only drive down to the resort . Is it ok if i hitch along from there ( Yet to pick up a 4x4 )

I guess it would be really nice if we could grill some chicken on a campfire and relax with a few beers on the day we reach and unwind. Also we can hire a cook to make us dinner. There are people who will help out for just 200 bucks ( just a suggestion ).

Im Game for this one.

In Jayanagar 4th Block. The shop name is 'WildCraft' on the side road besides ICICI bank branch/ATM. Cost: approx 4K for a 2 person tent.

Generally my wife does that, so she is out. Besides I have other engagements at that time.
