This is a very very good idea!

I`m definitely in. I can help with the hotel identification process. In case we do cover Shillong(In Meghalaya), I can probably arrange rooms at the best hotel there at really good rates. In other places also, I could see.

Cal-Mumbai for us happened in 2.5 days with no night driving. Just in case it is useful, this is the route we took

Cal- Stop at Malda for Lunch- Stop at Raipur for the Night- Lunch somewhere enroute- Stop at Akola for the night- Mumbai.(1800 km approx)

Cal-Shillong happens in one and a half day with a night stop at Siliguri. However cal-siliguri roads are pathetic.(1026 km approx)

Friends,

An update, so that one does not think that nothing is happening on this front.

kumarrji (hvkumar) is preparing the route plan and has got slightly busy with work, so the route planning is taking some time.

However; the good news is that kumarji has done most of the routes at some point or the other so he has the actual coordinates and reasonable updates on latest ground conditions.

Just wait for a few days and keep watching this space.

We all are onto something that has not been attempted before and maybe we could find ourselves into the record books for the GQ/PAN India Relay Drive/Meet.

Cheers,

Tour topic suggestions

IMHO, not just road safety. It is too generic. We should get more specific.

How about "Responsible driving"; "Road manners" or something like that. Or even about "Ecology friendly driving".

And in true community spirit, we should NOT have a lead vehicle or person. Having a pilot vehicle for each leg (preferably, a guy / vehicle from the destination city / town / State), and a big vehicle acting as "sweeper".

just a clarification, in case it uses Team BHP name for the rally, would we have any advertising from these auto companies. from what I read in advertising post..team bhp would not have any auto related advertising. if thats the case with relay also we might look at things like gatorade/red bull or other FMCG products or travel companies etc.

TBHP is a registered TM by GTO and we would need his permission before going for sponsorship. Moreover, as I had said earlier, these things take time both for organizing and the actual trip, which we all are short of. Better do this ourselves.

Just my 2 cents

Guys I am in this too. Let me know what kind of help you would require here in Mumbai and probably I can help. Also I would like to do this trip with you guys.

By the guys what are the dates when you are planning these trips. Is it some where in december as I have 15 days holiday and can take this trip very easily.

Kindly inform at the earliest.
Regards,
Kailash

Here is the first cut of the GQ drive plan.
Based on my own driving log books, except for Agra-Govindpur, which I have not personally driven.
5,851 kms, 8 days - that is how I have paced it.
Very difficult to do in 8 days, may be 10 days
Halt suggestions are purely suggestive.
Driving is continuous, but with halts. Night driving?
TBHP meets should be held on route, but duration not to exceed 2-3 hours.
Let us now work on the details, what will on store other than just the drive.
We need to work on exact times, tolerances.
Orissa roads are in a mess, don't expect any great improvement in next 3 months. Hence, slower speeds on Calcutta-Madras.

Great work Kumar-ji.
Oh, the trip from Bangalore to Pune/Bombay is one leg? :( I am not sure if I would be able to do that stretch and back. Anyway, lets discuss more during this weekend meeting.
