Almost every budget is catered to at Leh. Rooms from as low as Rs.400/-.
Ex-Delhi distance for the trip would be more like 2500 kms. (Manali way). If doing the circuit via Srinagar then it would be more like 3200 kms.

How will these days be for Leh, and the roads?

Read today in Autocar India, thes best time is mid august to september.

What say?

Usually the snow fall starts in early Oct, i think it would be safe to ride/drive at that time, however you are cutting too short.

And just to remind you Raid De Himalaya happens at the same time.

LOL, one does not normally stay in a TENT at Leh! And one certainly does not perform the morning ablutions in wide open & terribly windy places!

Tips -

I am damn crazy to do such a trip. Still rem the trip we did in 4 Bikes -
Bnglr - Goa - with all spares..all guidelines..road manners...

I know Leh is no where near a Bnglr - Goa or any thing in GQ - but still expreience counts a lots -

Count in factors while making for the highest motorable road in India

1. The passes (Rohtang and other maintained by BRO - Border Road organisation) are open during July-Aug only.

2. Its better if we get some contacts or friends in Armed forces - will serve a lots and makes it easy to cross each hurdles - i mean security is a tight rope here. I could use my little stint and friendships I still maintain with IAF folks.

3. Vehicles - better one with good GC - 1st thing first. Enough fuel storage tanks and spaces -

4. Even though each TBhpian I expect more than a layman's technics - I mean to do minor repairs or so - in case of break down - Hope we will be lucky to get a traveller who is pro in doing repairs works and break down issues upto a certain extent.

5. Carry all requisite spare parts - for eg a spare headlamp, spark plugs...etc etc..

6. One more major hurdle is getting vehicles from Bnglr or from any part of South India to Delhi alteast - are we planning to drive Bnglr -Delhi - I hope this consumes much of our time mann...! we have to think of some Plan B or C - other altrnatives

7. Then M factor - and availability -

8. I can tell you - this will be one of its kind of trip - lifetime one....so just you need to ignore the "M" factor and availability -

9. I feel if you get done this - without major hiccupps...then you are a world beater - confidence will be sky high - you can do any kind of trips in India - but not this - this is ultimate -

10. I am game for it -

Sounds exciting and would be a pack movement if this happens.

Been planning for this trip, I am in too, let's see how the timings shape up.

Attaching herewith a PDF made for the Leh trip; with drive directions, details and distances.

I think the date for the Journey should be fixed now,as we have enough time to apply for "holiday applications" at our office and work place respectively + Also who all will be getting their rides,so that some of us rideless creatures can accommodate. How much contribution we need to make at first to the Leader

A very pertinent question, Ramie!
With the numbers that are involved this is going to be scary to manage/lead! Who is volunteering to play that role?
