Gentlemen,

Thank you for attending the phone call.

THe New Jersey crew will get together and we will all arrive at Madison and 32nd in Manhattan between 8.45am and 9am, and depart for Norwalk by 9.15.

However, we will not be going to Norwalk proper since its will take us in the wrong direction. Instead we will meet Ahmed in Westport, CT. At the Siena Restorante which is at 5 Riverside Ave., Westport.

Ahmed, I was looking for a location that would be most direct for all of us, while also not being too far off our route, and this is the location that works best.

When we are all there, then we will set off for the country roads.

See you all tomorrow!

Hey guys, one more thing. Once we take off from west port for the windy roads, we will see how they work out. If they are good, then we will come back the same way. If they turn out to have too much traffic or there is too much congestion, instead of turning around, we'll continue straight onto Route 8 and head south for a fast run the Merritt Parkway.

Just back from an awesome meet !
Following people came:
Harbir - Lotus Elise
Aah78 (Advait) - BMW 330i
abhijitaparadh (Abhijit)
16v1000bhp (Ahmed) and wife Zoha- Audi A6 3.0
satyamenon (Satya) - Chevy Malibu
sids911 (Siddharth)

All of us apart from Ahmed and Zoha met in Manhattan near Advait's house at sharp 9am (which was awesome since it was Saturday). We started off towards Westport CT to meet Ahmed. We followed the route as mentioned by Harbir in previous post. Cars followed a strict convoy, Harbir (Elise)
then Advait and Abhijit (330i) followed by Satya and Sid (Malibu).

The drive was lovely, the weather was perfect.
We made it to Westport in about an hr and a half. After we caught up with Ahmed, and a brief fuel stop (both for people and cars), we set off for the windy roads in Connecticut.

I squeezed besides Harbir in the Elise to get a feel of a sports car. And what an experience that was ! Elise just hugs the road, Never ever it felt insecure or out of control while blasting at close to 100 MPH on the winding back roads of CT. Thats a true testament to the car as well as the driver. You and your Elise rock, Harbir ! BTW, this Elise was Elise Sports Limited Edition #47 of 50.

After about an hour on twisty roads, we stopped briefly at Black Rock dam (which was empty). After a quick photo-shoot, we reached Thomaston CT for lunch break.

Had a a typical American Diner lunch with lots of discussions about cars. Talking to Harbir was quite informative as he has immense knowledge about cars especially with his track experience over the years.

We left the Diner at close to 5.30 PM, Satya, Sid (Malibu) and Ahmed, Zoha (A6) departed by expressway, while 330i and Elise hit the back roads again. After some more back roads driving, we finally called it a day and returned to NYC by 8.30 PM.

All in all a great meet!
Next meet : NY Auto show. What say guys ?

Photos follow:
1. Elise in NYC
2,3. Elise on Meritt Pkwy (And a Chevy Camaro too)
4. Waiting for Ahmed in Westport
5. Pondering over the route
6. Fuel Stop
7. Back roads of CT
8-13. Photo shoot at Black Rock dam
14. Lunch time (L-R) Sid, Advait, Harbir, Zoha, Ahmed, Satya

Was an awesome drive and an awesome meet... We have to this more often, especially since the weather is getting better and better each day...

Maybe next time I'll try bringing something more interesting than a retired-man's family sedan.

Dayumn... That Elise was bonkers. The way it just took off, and stuck to the road like glue.

NY Auto Show? When's that? I'm game anyways...

Was great meeting all you guys. Definitely have to do this again.

P.S. Nice pics Abhijit.

BTW, I have most photos of Elise only, as most of the time, I was following Elise in 330i with Advait.
Guys, please share your photos ASAP !

Advait, man! What's happened to you?
You've stolen Rehaan's french beard. You're also driving on the wrong side of the road. Infact, all of you are. Gosh! Things people do when they land in the US.

It was absolutely great meeting you folks!

Nice pictures, Abhijit! Thanks for the write up! Hey, if you have more pictures that you can send me, I'd appreciate that.

And hey all you other guys, put up the pictures you have. don't hold back. lets see them all!!

Anybody up for the NY Autoshow? I am definitely gonna go. And we should do this drive type event again. I think it worked out very well this time.

Cheers

PS. so much for the 5 hours. From the time i left home to the time I got back, it was 11.5 hours! hahaha! oh well. atleast we know for the future that a good day can take that much time.

My apologies to the folks who got late for their commitments in the evening. Including the hot mama ones!

Hey Advait and Abhijit,

I don't know if you noticed how shockingly different Roxbury was from, say, Thomaston. The latter was poor, run down, dilapidated. Roxbury was small but ultra posh. even the roads there were in good shape. I got to wondering how come roxbury was so posh but Thomaston wasn't.

Well, no surprise. Roxbury is one of those towns where rich people live. and not just anonymous ones.

Dustin Hoffman lives there. Marylin Monroe lived there. Dennis Leary lives there. Steven Sondhiem lives there. The editor of Vanity Fair lives there. And thats just the known people. obscure people like the author of "Sophie's choice" (great movie) also lives there.

Man, we need to make a billion bucks and go live in one of these places. I was watching the Gordon Ramsey F Word show, in which Gordon visits Jeremy Clarkson at his home on the Isle of Man, where the Isle of Man TT race takes place. man, its nice to be filthy rich and make a home in an exotic locale.

Sidharth,

Thanks for that link! I didn't know about that group!

Aditya, I finally figured out that consecutive posts are frowned upon. Sorry about that. I'll be mindful in the future.

Hey guys,
It might not be possible for me to meet on the long weekend for NY auto show. A plan to visit DC for Cherry Blossoms is shaping up !
