Shahrukh Khan, "Murder" ka hero, .... autographs available at Rs. 5/- per sign. Rather optimistic way of making money, wasn't it?

Not a bad thing really. The good old Conti has been a regular at most team-bhp meetings and has been hogging the limelight a great deal - check the Goa thread. It's good to have the focus away from her for a while and shift it to younger and non-regular machinery.
There's one thing that the Conti did which none of the others didn't even think of - carry a frisbee and a football (albeit deflated) - essentials for a beach trip.

Report
Trip To Alibaug 12th June 2005

Members and Cars

Drifter - Hyundai Accent CRDi
Rehaan - Hyundai Accent
Manaa45 - Hyundai Accent
Aditya - HM Contessa Classic
Rtech - Kawasaki ZZR
Viper - Maruti Esteem
Speedsatya - Maruti Zen
NC - Skoda Octavia 1.9
Ford Rocam - Ford Ikon 1.6

Passengers - Stratos, F50, kooldude, dippy, revvmaster, jesal, NC's friends.

Meet Time is 7.00 am. I show up at 6.45. As usual im the only one standing alone at sion circle waiting for the others to reach...the member who lives 2 mins from the circle (read stratos) is nowhere to be seen. I make calls to check on the status of everyone. Aditya is 5 mins away but stuck in a jam at dharavi at 7.00am...so much for beating the traffic...while jigar and jesal are lost in sion (can you believe it ).

7.00am comes and still no signs of anyone...but finally stratos shows up...rtech and rehaan follow in a few minutes. Revvmaster is a surprised us when he showed up minutes before departure in a cab.
We depart 15mins behind schedule. There are some members who will join us at palm beach.
We reach vashi in 10mins. On the way...jigars vtec and the CRDi indulge in a small drag...hehe the accent was keeping up...i was busy listening to jigars exhaust...and actually forgot to shift with the car bouncing off the redline in 3rd. At vashi toll naka, there is a slight confusion about members who are supposed to join us. So after clearing all that...we decide to meet up with the rest at the palm beach junction.
It was one hell of a long wait, but who cares, we were having fun. We reach the junction...where manaa45 is waiting for us...we all get introduced with her as this was the first time most of us were meeting her. Ford ROCAM is supposed to be meeting us. Around this time NC is making his way from koparkhairne with a surprise (speedsatya).
After about 30-45 mins of waiting and joking around...theres a golden ikon (read ford rocam) heading our way fast...he was going so fast he almost missed us. Within minutes, we are joined by nc and friends and along with our surprise special appearance from mangalore speedsatya with his dharmendra.

We leave finally about an hour and a half late. All our 'fast drivers' take off...except for jigar who hangs on for sometime with me. Right around kalamboli we see a familiar esteem with its hood up...so much for the drive i thought. But viper was just pouring some oil into the engine. We are off again. The NH17 as mentioned before is a very good road to drive on...and now i do seem to have the hang of it...but still was driving slow to keep our slower members on the right track.
Soon cars are overtaking each other at fairly good intervals. I along with stratos are enjoying the drive with our goa tracks still playing on the cd player...hehehe...wish dippy were in my car . I didnt expect manaa45 to be driving the way she did...she did a pretty good job of it. At one point i was having a hard time keeping up with her. Rtech stops every now and then because of his bag i think. (the strap kept coming loose?)
Soon we are past karnala and heading towards the toll naka. This time the award for the 'lost his way' member goes to rehaan. He somehow managed to lonavala as told to me by other members...but even then...manages to reach alibaug as well.
After the toll, i stop to guide the other members who were left behind...all show except rehaan...after frantic calls...theres more confusion over his actual position. I relied on rehaans sense of direction and decided to carry on.

The roads remind me of our recent goa drive and with the same music playing and that same conty leading us...felt as if we were going back to goa. The roads open up and so do the throttles. Everyone is enjoying the drive at their own speeds...some fast and some slow.
Around 10.30am, we reach wadkal naka...where some members are already waiting at a restaurant...we see them and turn off for the restaurant...some members miss the turn off...but realise and are back.
11.00am...still no signs of rehaan...after more calls...i am told he's 12kms behind...wonder how that figure was arrived at.
Our breakfast is great...good food with car talk equals to good times. And enjoy we did both the food and the jokes (especially certain airbag jokes hehehe).
After we are done eating...we decide to push off...do a small photoshoot infront of the restaurant. We leave...still no rehaan.

After the wadkal naka, the weather looks like rain...im already thinking about rtech on the bike. All of a sudden...it pours and in some sections it gets pretty rough.
Manaa45 on seeing the rains...comes into her own...and makes up a good lead...i get in behind her trying my best to keep up with her in the rains with my slick tyres...which show almost no resistance to sliding in the rains...and thats the reason im often seen fishtailing on turns by jigar who was following.
I just love the rains...just adds to the pleasure of the drive...maybe apart from rtech...who wouldnt have been happy to see those clouds.
The rain doesnt last for too long...and we soon reach alibaug beach.
We park our cars in the open area just before the beach.

We do a small photoshoot...and rehaan finally shows up. Rehaan cant help but do his thing on seeing this open space...just floors his accent through the sand...drifting sliding everywhere and enjoying every bit of it. The best was...hmm...what should i call it...a reverse doughnut performed by specialist rehaan. Seeing him...how can i stay put...i get my accent out and play around as well. NC asks me to do some moves for video...I drive towards him fast and supposed to a 180...but misjudge my speed and distance from nc...
this results nc jumping out of my way and shouting for getting sand all over him...hehehe sorry about that buddy.
Low angle shots of NCs ride requested by rudra are being taken by numerous cameramen. All this fun in the sand and collection of fine machinery brings in the crowds of people to watch us. But rtechs bike was the most sought after piece here. I think i may have heard some kid say its a dhoom bike. hehehe.
After gathering such a crowd...we decide its best to leave and head off to some other place...but as we get off the beach...rtech says its going to rain...so no point of him continuing to ride...he decides to head home...and so do we after some thinking.

All but one car are together and ironically that solitary car (read viper and his esteem) is on the right track...while others being led by speedsatya are driving the wrong way. But finally we do get our bearings right and are on the right road...we catch up with viper in sometime who is waiting for us.
At this point we decide to meet up at the palm beach junction...till then its every man and woman for himself.
I still try and stick with a group of cars. Manaa45 takes charge and is leading all the way till palm beach junction followed closely by me and jigar. We take the panvel by pass which has been newly made...that road is an absolute beauty to drive on.
We reach palm beach junction...where manaa45 and her passenger f50 are already waiting for us.
The others arrive as well in sometime...with satya making it in last. We later find out nc and his friends along with rjk have stopped somewhere at karnala for drinks.
Its about 2.00pm...and im late...the car is needed at home latest by 3...so i head off. These people head off to a restaurant at vashi for lunch. Some other member may fill in the details if any about the lunch.

All in all another successful drive. Waiting for the next one.
