Thanks for the updates Sagar. The workmanship seems excellent. After really long time, TBhp has a Live restoration thread.

Thanks a lot sir, i really appreciate your presence and value your comments. Regarding the workmanship i am having a hard time getting things done as per my wish as these people do things like the way they want it.
AS far as TBHP is concerned i am still struggling to survive here (i mean the thread) I need motivation and help regarding parts, paint scheme, etc but unable to receive it. The only reason to keep this thread live and alive is the comments and appreciation of people like you, which refrains me from closing this thread.

Re: Restoration of Premier Padmini S1 (the Special one)

Arre Sagar, no posts doesn't mean no one is watching your thread. Many are watching but refraining from posting one-liners.

Regarding paint scheme, call up Pavan and he will guide you to choose the right color.

You say painting costs 9k. Which Paint are you gonna use? Duco or Dupont?

Also post restoration, will the Special One be a daily runner or will it be under atmost care(always under shelter and will never get drenched in rain)?

Re: Restoration of Premier Padmini S1 (the Special one)

"1199 Views" justify your first point but still haven't got any lead on the paint scheme or vital parts.
Pavan ji has already stated a step by step procedure on the paint process. Colour will remain the same.
Dupont paint is to be used. Will purchase the paint kit in a day or two hence i need to discuss on this part.
Post restoration, S1 will be a weekend runner. It will be covered using car cover (probably 2 layers).

Painting labor + Paint = 9000 -> Pretty cool.

What critical parts are you looking for?

Re: Restoration of Premier Padmini S1 (the Special one)

These are not so critical. They are easily available!

1. They can be done custom made.
2. Pick them from scrapyard. Its better.
3. Can find good ones from PP being scrapped. Not available new in your place?
4. Your door setter will take care I am sure.

All engine micro components are handy?

Hmm. looks very good on paper

But Sagar expect this to go up by atleast 35% - 40%

Thats the hard truth.

The painting materials itself will cost you Rs 7000/-

I estimated your restoration to cost an approximate Rs 56000/- +

I am not being contradictory to your post by here's my view and experience on the same:

1. Customization is the last option as the finish is not good.
2. Majority of them are damaged/bent.
3. Used ones are of no use. Water seeps in and corrodes the doors and damages the door panels.
4. Can't comment on this. Keeping my fingers crossed.

For the record till date i have made numerous trips to the Scrapyard (which alone had cost me around 1000Rs for conveyance) and got few used rubber parts but they are of no use. Its better to get them new.

Can't seem to understand what you meant by Engine micro components.

Re: Restoration of Premier Padmini S1 (the Special one)

1. Door pads can be custom made with good Q board. Finish can surely be good.

2. OK I got the point. Here in Bangy, the beadings that come with cars to Scrapyard are very good many times. Gold Seal make.

3. These too are best only from Gold Seal. Not available new. Again, we can find good ones in Bangy. I know as FCB boys have many sets of them in very good condition.

FCBian - TBhpian DOCEL, has fixed Indica or Sumo ones. Looks and fits perfect.

4. Sujith1100 will help you in this.

Engine components I meant - Water pump, brake cylinder, susp bushes etc.

Re: Restoration of Premier Padmini S1 (the Special one)

You guys are surely lucky to get good quality ones from scrapped cars. I agree that Goldseal and Unity are the only good ones.

There is scarcity of engine components here and parts are made available on order. I recently came across a water pump by TVS Autolec for Rs. 600 approx. Was wondering should i pick it up or not.

I have suggested him Dupont Super.

Main reason being the kind of finishing this paint gives, which is just perfect and long lasting lusture.

Dupont Super needs to be sprayed Direct mixed with Hardner (No Thinner to be added at all) Sagar would need 1.35 litres of paint which would cost approx Rs. 3800/-

Surfacer matching this color he might need 1 litre approx costing Rs. 1400/-

Tube patti costing Rs.360/-

Covering coats of paint from 3M costing approx Rs.700/-

3 kgs of 3M Bondo (Body Filler) approx Rs 1000/-

500 ml Wheel Silver approx Rs.300/-

500 ml Black approx Rs.200/-

500 ml Extra thinner approx Rs.350/-

Tac cloth, paint filter and degreaser cloth approx Rs. 400/-

And an approx labour for the painter Rs. 5000/-

This would actually sum up the painting costs with a buffer budget of 10% + or - .
