here are the check list, not necessarily in that order.
1. petrol filter
2. air filter and its sensor
3. spark plugs and related electric system, ht coil etc. (Most likely this)

A friend of mine had the same problem, and it turned out that the accelerator cable 'casing' was not fixed properly to the car. When the accelerator was being pressed, the cable cover was also moving sideways, creating this problem.

This may not be your case, but still a reminder to keep in mind how small issues are blown up.

My friend is facing the same issue as mentioned in the OP, his is a 2006 Indica Xeta with the ODO @ little less than 30K Kms.

Any suggestion to fix this issue? He has already tried the suggestions mentioned in this thread.
