Got the polo back after the service today.
The car feels better and lighter than before.

I have taken photos of the lamination done below the mats and would not advise anyone to get it done.
1. It is a shoddy job. Horrible finish.
2. They use the plastic rolls used to cover exercise books and have lined the matting.
3. The softness of the mat below your feet is gone and replaced by that disgusting, crumbling plastic.

stupid:

Hey guys just got the 1st year service done on my Polo 1.6. Here are the details:

ODO: 11805
Location : Global Gallerie G.B. Road Thane

Had booked an appointment over the phone and was given an approximate quote of Rs.10500. Appointment was fixed for 20th at 11am.

So on the appointed day i got to the service center couple of minutes before 11. Had to wait around for approx. 20 min. Was attended by SA Michael & Trainee SA Sunny. Asked them about what exactly was i gonna get for my Rs.10500, which after going through this thread i found to be a tad high. According to the SA the cost of servicing a 1.6 polo is higher than that of a 1.2. I found this a little surprising because the mechanicals of the two are essentially the same except for the extra 600cc. Anyways on probing further the SA revealed that the extra cost is because the 1.6 takes up 4 ltrs. of oil and the oil filter is different (apparently the oil filter for the 1.6 is some sort of an alloy, more expensive of course). I had no way of confirming this on the spot so i let that go.
The next most expensive thing on the service was the labour. Asked then not to do the wheel alingment (Rs.1500) i get it done from Premji in thane. Wheel rotation is not done by them unless specified (Rs.200 labour) will also get this done at Premji.
I wanted to get some paint touch up done but was advised against doing it by the SA. Now this is what i would like some advice from fellow T-BHP members about, according to the SA all of VW paints are 'water' based and not 'thinner' based so according to him if do get the touch up done it will be washed away with the rains. Any ideas about this? Painting the entire panel would cost upwards of 6k so decided no to do anything about it.
Also updated a few VAS features which was good. I had asked Global gallerie about updating these features last year in September but they had no clue about it then so was good to finally get it done.
Lastly i opted for a body wash (Rs.651 including taxes) interior cleaning was way too expensive. Was promised delivery at 6pm. Delivery was fine the SA's got everything done as requested. Final cost of service came to Rs.8802 which is quite expensive. Unfortunately there was a power cut during final billing (generator was not working) so they were not able to print out the bill, said i would pick it up some other day.

All in all a satisfactory 1st service from Global Gallerie. Not much to complain about, will post the Final bill details when i get it, will be nice to compare with other service centers.

Hi. Have taken pics of the shoddy plasticy job and trying to post them.

What do you think guys? Please see the pictures and suggest.

Mukeshji,

The pads look good for atleast another 5-7k kms, even 10k considering your driving style.

Thanks Gaurav, I will be happy if they last 5k more because VW has already been paid for a set of brake pad (plus other things) at 30k service (maintenance package).

You could have got the 3D Kagu mats that would serve more than the purpose you are looking for and are decent looking.

Cheers!

Cheers!

That lamination looks really bad, do go in for 3D mats or those custom cut mats from 3M

All,

My Polo 1.6 will complete 2 years in August. A few days back I received a call from the dealer to renew the Road Side Assistance package as the default one that comes with the car expires after 2 years. The cost is Rs 3333 for 2 years or Rs 2111 for 1 year.
What do you guys suggest?

I have tried to attach the document below. Had attached images like before, but not sure if attach thing works for other documents as well.
rsa_brochure(1).pdf

My friend has purchased a Polo1.2 (P) a couple of months back. On one occasion while driving the catalytic converter fault indication came on. Took the same to Downtown and they connected the VAG and the problem did not occur for some time.

After a month, yesterday while driving the same fault indicator came on.
Any Polo owners has experienced the same anytime? Any indication to the probable cause?

Cheers!

Hi! Road side assistance for these modern cars is a waste IMHO. Instead, if there is a package to compensate for the maintenance / repair down time, it is worth it.

Any idea on the life of the battery? Is it advisable to change it periodically instead of waiting it to completely fail? :)

Hi Chetan,
Can't disagree. But the problem I see is, these modern day cars are difficult to fix as well for a road side mechanic. So if you do get stuck on the middle of nowhere then you have no option but to call the company service center and I have no idea if they will respond to on time or how much they will charge if you don't have the RSA.
On the battery front, usually these batteries last anywhere between 3 to 5 years. You can get your battery checked by a battery dealer. They can give a rough idea on the current state of the battery. But the batteries do have a tendency to fail when you are least expecting. In my previous car the battery failed without notice even though i was told "at least 6 more months" by the service agent. So if you are going on a long drive out of the city and your battery is more than 4 years, get it replaced. But if you drive in city you can always call the batmobile guys 24x7. So no need to worry.

I dont entirely agree with this.

I have used roadside assistance on two instances since I bought my Polo. In my early days of owning the car, there was a fuel gauge failure due to which I ran out of fuel completely and stalled the car bang in the middle of Mumba-Nasik highway (a very dangerous situation). Now somehow I was lucky enough to have been able to pull the car to the side to safety. I called VW Toll free number and they were quite prompt in taking the request. They dispatched a towing vehicle which arrived after a while (30-45 mins). Though the guys were completely useless in diagnosing the fault, they did manage to get the car back to the service station. The VW technicians diagnosed the fault to fuel gauge failure and replaced it for free. On probing a little further, they agreed this was a known issue in the Polo Trendline 1.2. The fact that VW put my life in serious danger is a completely different issue.

The second instance was in the Mumbai monsoon when my car got a flat tyre while driving. I went through the same process and the towing vehicle took awfully long to arrive (more than one hour). They did a very shoddy job of replacing the flat with the spare tyre and in the process put huge grease marks on my impeccably maintained and pristine upholstery much to my fury. To top it al, the guys asked me if I knew how to replace the tyre saying he wasn't sure completely!

So do not expect any serious or professional service from these guys. They will not be able to repair or diagnose your car in case of a breakdown but they will manage to do ONE thing really well - to get your car to the closest VW Service station. Now one may argue that my points favour NOT taking the road side assistance package. But purely keeping in mind that the VW service costs 1666 per year and claims to cover 99% of India, compared to the exorbitant rates that a towing guy might charge you in some random part of the country makes it totally worth it - in my opinion. Ofcourse if you dont drive out of the city too much and feel comfortable go ahead and opt out.

My polo (1.2 HL P) went for Second service yesterday. Running just 15870 kms in two years, mostly on highways. Will post long term review soon.

Two issues only...

Hissing Noise from A/C, particularly while starting.
Erratic behavior of Windows.. sometimes fail to roll down single touch and sometimes when rolling up single touch they close and open again.

Today called SE. He reports minor leak from A/C coil and says he has logged in for warranty replacement. (Warranty expires day after tomorrow). He says new coil is requisitioned and I will get my car on Monday.

Let's hope everything goes fine and I actually get it on Monday.
