They were OE. 3 replacement sets all from A$$ cannot all be fake. Also, it seems that Hyundai switched from Korean dampers, to Chinese Dampers, to Gabriel in the period. One reason for the last was to reduce the shelf time, which can contribute to failures. Some changes in the rear suspension were made around 1996, so they were aware of the problem.

Re: All 4shock absorbers gone in 1000kms

I have opened up the springs again. I think that guy has given me the wrong springs, these don't seem like they are for Accent petrol maybe they are for Accent diesel. Im posting the pics of the front springs, just have a look. The short ones are the ones that were there in the car.

Re: All 4shock absorbers gone in 1000kms

If both are front, then just see the lengths. Differ by at least an inch! Something very fishy here.

Re: All 4shock absorbers gone in 1000kms

It seems that the short ones are weak and have got compressed, as the number of coils is same. Could be bad material else old over used springs.

Could be.
Do you have the part numbers of the new ones?

Even a weaker used one should not be compressed around 1.5~2 inches. Think of this compression in the vehicle, it loses around 40~50mm ground clearance.
In case of older springs or the one which is extensively used, load vs deflection curve should fall below the actual value. But the change in open height will not be in the same rate.

Re: All 4shock absorbers gone in 1000kms

Spent the whole day yesterday searching for the right springs and guess what, found 3 different sizes of front springs for Accent petrol1.5 . The shopkeeper was also wondering and all 3 had different part numbers. It seems that Hyundai made some changes in post 2003 models, they come with bigger springs and gas filled shocks. The prices of the 2 springs that almost matched my springs was much more than earlier springs which i had bought. Rs.2100/spring, now that is expensive for a spring.

I am not surprised since the model had a long run. Also, it verifies my info (thanks Drifter) that the suspension had major changes in/after 2003.
