2000@Punto.

I try to make gear changes at around 2000 but usually end up doing it at 1500 itself.

Fiesta 1.6 sxi petrol---my sweet spot matches with mayankk's. I love the growl of the engine past 3000 rpm, and she begs for more.

WagonR 2001 model---no tacho, so I merely go by sound. I hate the soiund of the Waggie at high revvs however. This apart, it does not handle well and sways due to cross-winds on open highways.

Figo Zxi Petrol

All gears - 1500 ~ 2000 rpm as per the supplied manual.

Gives really good mileage (both city & highway).

It hits the sweet spot @ 1800 rpm.

The Jeep has one heck of an engine for city use. Plus, the gearing is so low that I can even start off in 3rd gear without the 2.5L breaking into a sweat. The sweet spot for the Jeep is definitely between the 1,400 - 2,000 rpm range. The fact that it starts SCREAMING over 3,000 rpm ensures you keep the revvs low :D

Next up is the Benz. Sweetest 2.2 liter turbo-diesel ever. Zero turbo-lag and instant torque whenever you demand it. Within the city, I'd stick to 1,600 - 1,900 rpm. That's before the turbo is spooling completely, but you have more than enough torque even there. Highways, especially when overtaking, I frequently take her to 4 K, nice torque delivery all through.

High-revving champ : The Civic. Really comes onto its own over 4,000 rpm and man, it can blow you away in the 6,000 - 7,000 rpm range (climbs hard and sounds to die for).

The awful 1.4 TDI in the Indigo has a very limited sweet spot. You can't shift below 2K, else you get stuck with horrible lag. And you can't go over 2,400 - 2,500 rpm because then, it sounds like a grinder.

I had the same issue with the santro.
no tacho.
after i got the FE fitted, though, i just pulled and pulled, mostly cos it felt i was not lugging it, and the sound factor, of course.
i checked similar speeds in a tachoe'd santro, found out that in similar speeds, i was hardly reaching 3-4k.
nowhere near the redline, not even halfway there.
but the amount of noise those mills make, even at mid revs, you dont WANT to push it beyond that, somehow.

driving the linea is pure bliss @ 2500 rpm. the multijet blasts off like a rocket.

On my Lancer,
Normal / City Driving : Shift up between 1800-2500 rpm occassionally to 3000rpm

Spirited Driving/Overtaking/Highways : 2500-4000rpm. Even 4000 is occassional, since the engine sounds strained and beyond this range, the sound is higher than the acceleration ;-)

Palio GTX sweet spot to cruise is 4000 rpm.
City driving - 2500 rpm
Highway sedate - 3500 rpm- 120 kmph
Highway sprited - 7000 rpm, 3 gear. 5500 rpm 4th gear
3rd gear is a beauty easily eats bigger sedan between 80 ~ 140 kmph.

In city, i shift at 2200 rpm, with occasional burst to 6000 rpm.

Sweet spot for me is 3700 rpm, it really feels going very F-A-S-T.

The car considered here is Hyundai Accent 1.5l petrol.

Cheers
Sameer

i20 CRDi has the sweet spot at 2200 RPM. It like an injection filled with adrenaline with the needle just touching your skin.Press the pedal and the needle will sink in and give you a blast of power!! Literally smokes any other similar powered cars! Pulls like a Fighter jet on afterburner!stupid:

Ikon - 2k to 2.6k RPM- 1.6l Rocam
Highways - 2.9k RPM - around 100kmh
Italian tuneup - 4k for 5 mins 3rd or 2nd Gear

SX4 (non VVT) - Sweetest spot - starts at 3500 RPM, Can really feel the 145 Nm of torque here. Almost linear till 4500. Basically would downshift anytime to hit this range, when gasping for power (to overtake). No issues till 5600 RPM. After that its just sporty grunt and no fruit (with a revv limiter OEM configured at 6200 RPM - Dropping at approx 5000). Short bursts (abused) in this range often frequented to overtake trucks and slow moving heavy vehicles, and the vehicle has taken it quite well. Less than 3000 RPM not even worth discussing here :Frustrati. Due to tall gearing, often have to slot in 1, 3 (during downshifts) to surge forward.

Italian tuneup?
Wassat?

4k for 5minutes in 3rd 2nd, doesn't that get painful?

Elantra 1.8 Petrol:

Eco Mode: Shifts @ 1800 rpm. Maintain revs at 2000-2500 rpm.
Mad Mode: Shifts @ 6200 rpm. Maintain & 5500 rpm.
Helmholtz Resonance is tuned at 3000 rpm (OEM) so the PUSH starts 2000 rpm & continues till 5500 rpm before dropping slightly at redline (6200 rpm).

Sonata 2.7 V6 Petrol:

Eco Mode: Shifts @ 1500 rpm. Maintain revs at 1500-2000 rpm.
Mad Mode: Shifts @ 7200 rpm. Maintain revs at 6000 rpm.
Helmholtz resonance tuned at 4000 rpm (OEM) so PUSH starts 2500 rpm & continues till 6000 rpm before dropping slightly at redline (7200 rpm).

My DDIS has it's sweet spot at 2000, where in any gear the acceleration is great. In 5th gear relates to 80 kmph where FE is also max.
