Variable Intake system and performance air filter

Hi,
Newer cars in INdia like the Aveo nad Ford Fiesta come with VIGS or Variable intake geometry manifolds.. How does this work?? Since this is nothing but controlling the air inlet (into cylinders) thorugh valves which open or close based on speed at which the automobile is moving. By fitting a high flow air filter like K&N on such intake manifolds, it is assured that more air flows even at lower car speed and valves will open at a much lower speed than the OE calculations... Wont this affect the air-fuel ratio and affect the ECU operation?

How do you know the Fiesta has it. Is it the 1.6 engine or the 1.4

Optra also has it on the 1.6NY.
