M800 Type 1 Mods

A friend of mine owns a Maruti 800 '87 model. He would like to know if the existing cylinder head can be replaced with the head of the MPFi 800's (5 Speed ones)? Is it a direct fit or will it require some modifications to accomodate the MPFi engine head?

Secondly can the 5 Speed gearbox be fitted in lieu of the existing 4speed box?

Both would be a direct fix.No problem at all.Have seen individual cases of both of them.

Hey Can you please tell me how much the engine and gear swap might cost me?

I have a 2003 model.

Cylider Head Swap

HI HUMYUM, i think there is great confusion, carb. cyl head and mpfi 5speed cylinder heads can not be inter changed. The cyl block is allso different. Certainly not direct fix.

MPFI 800 is also 2 valves, IIRC. I don't see what advantage you will get.

Try sourcing an Alto 1.1 engine with wiring and gearbox. That should be fun.

You will need to swap more than just the head. Wiring harness, ECU, manifolds, sensors, all that jazz.

Yes, in most cases. But compression differs.

Rebuild? Pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets, labour etc should cost well over 25k, if that's what you mean by rebuild.

and you mean the mpfi kit including the harnesser, costs extra apart from all that you mentioned?

Yes it does. The parts that I mentioned are normally used in an engine rebuild/overhaul.
