Varying a/c blower throw in Honda City (current gen)

The a/c blower in my Honda City (current gen) throws up varying amounts of air occasionally. Earlier I thought it was a one-off thing but I have observed this rather regularly.

The car is just over a year old and is serviced regularly. The a/c is used almost 100% as are most vehicles in Gurgaon. During use, the a/c suddenly throws a lesser amount of air and then returns to normal after a while.

Please note :

- the a/c is used in internal circulation mode
- the variation is observed when the car is at the same speed/ gear/acceleration
- this is observed at blower speeds (1 and 2; 3 & 4 haven't been used as yet)
- the duration of the variation in throw is not constant
- the variation occurs randomly

I haven't observed this in my Zen or Corsa hence find it abnormal.

Is such behaviour routine or I need to get something checked?

MODS : please merge it in my ownership thread if necessary.

Does the amount of air thrown/fan speed proportional to the rpm?

EDIT: Also, does the lights, electricals, et al dim, when it happens? Just to make sure it isnt a supply issue.

Nope, forgot to mention that.

It is irrespective of the rpm.

Nishad, try this:

1. Turn OFF the ignition switch.
2. Now, press and hold the recirculation button and rear window defogger button, and turn ON the ignition switch.

This is said to be a diagnostic test for Honda's Manual AC.

After the 1st two steps, the recirculation indicator will turn on for about 2 seconds, then self-diagnostic function begins.

If there is a problem, then then recirculation indicator will blink.

Let me know how many times it blinks.

Re: Varying a/c blower throw in Honda City (current gen)

The car had gone in for servicing today; I'd asked my father to report this.

As it turned out, there was *too* much dust all along the a/c unit; right now from the a/c filter to the air pipes.

The airways, vents and the a/c filter was cleaned thoroughly.

The problem has been resolved now.

If the cabin air filter was indeed fine,so much muck should have escaped into the air ducts, unless of,course the dust went in from the vents.

I think the filter could have been clogged with some fibrous stuff which would have resulted in variations in speed whenever the stuff would block the pores, and the speed would normalise when the stuff shifted.
