I also noticed hard water spots on all glasses (not able to remove) .... also noticed on all Mahindra logo is having glue spot.. (as i am using silver color hence not easy see from first look) in few days doing first service.. will raise this concern..
Hi all,
Well I have read the entire thread i.e., all 7 full pages of it. As per my observation the issues are mostly with the infotainment system, gears, alignment and electronics. Ok I dont say that one should accept such issues after paying more than 12 lakhs. But considering the fact that Mahindra is offering a reasonably good product at a very good price with lots and lots of equippment we can tolerate the minor niggles.
My question to all the present XUV 5oo owners is that did anyone encounter major problems with the mechanicals such that they have repented having bought the XUV. Considering the price, features, comfort, etc., weather the owners are reasonably contented with the car or not. Did anyone have a breakdown or major issues with the brakes etc. Please give me your opinions so that I can decide on buuying the XUV as I am seriously thinking of going for it.
One more thing that I want to know is that weather the XUV 5oo is tested for safety and airbag deployment and are the airbags also as good as the infotainment system and will they work when required. Is there any NCAP ratings available to the XUV 5oo and weather the car has been tested at NCAP or similar facility. Weather the XUV has been tested for crashworthiness.

Even I am planning to book when available next time, so the question to all XUV 5oo owners. Actually its just one question only.
How is the clutch on the XUV, does it get too hard with more mileage/time?
Any info on the clutch in this thread or ownership thread is very welcome.
Having had a scorpio for 3 years, hard clutch was the only issue I was not happy with. Its was so hard, I had to literally stand on the clutch or use my hand to support the leg.
Regards

Man couldn't stop laughing (imagining how you were operating the clutch)...sorry :)
I'm not a XUV owner yet (expecting W8 delivery in the next 4 to 5 days), but have test driven at least 5 different W8's in the last 4 months. Each time I had different experience with the XUV clutch (however the more recent 2 test drives have been better - smooth clutch, as good as my Esteem !). I'm not sure if the newer vehicles have better clutch OR its M&M's quality variation across vehicles. I'm awaiting the W8 delivery with mixed feelings and am hoping that the clutch is not too hard.

You are right in a sense that for the money spent its a value car. However not all are minor niggles. You have mentioned gears as one of the issues, well to me thats quite a major one. You might have read posts of Rossiter in this thread whose car's transaxle has been changed and the scrapping noise is yet to be solved. Apart from this there have been a few cases where clutch has been an issue. However I count all these as part of the "initial offering". You got to live with any first gen machine sadly.
Anyways all said and done it surely is a good one to buy. Maybe by the time you get it these issues also might be sorted out. Also unless someone has a crash I highly doubt you can test the airbags :) I am sure they are ok. I am not too sure though if they are NCAP 5 certified.
The information on this thread is very very useful. To me, any issue with the mechanicals or electronics that has to do with the drivability / safety of the car is a Red Flag. If Infotainment or minor rattles were the only issue, I would not be worried.
My personal thought is that owners of XUV5OO who buy it in 2014 will be most satisfied. By that time, M & M would have sorted out most issues to the level that the price point demands.
Was in love with the XUV5OO. Booked the 2012 Innova GX 7 seater Diesel yesterday.:)

I think you made a wise decision considering the number of issues, even I am in love with the looks of the XUV5OO, but am still sitting on the fence to see if things improve with the second lot.
If they do and if I can book one in the next lottery (I hope there is no lottery next time round) this will be the one which would be replacing my Scorpio else in all probability the next choice would be Renault Duster.
Just a quick update of my post of 5th Feb. Regarding the HMI.exe application error
Got in touch with M&M and also Nippon!
The Dy Manager Service again dropped in with his equipment and re flashed and upgraded the software to Ver3.06.
So far it is working well. Has not acted up.

@Tushar, good to note that the outstanding problems have been solved.
The trip sounds great, but I think you really meant 4.5K KM. Needless to say, take plenty of pictures and share them with us. :)
Also let me know if you've solved the glare/reflection from the top of the dashboard.
Cross posting from another thread as I didn't get an answer:
I'm not getting how to skip to the next folder while you're playing an MP3 CD.
ie, You're playing a song in FolderA. The >> button will play next song in FolderA. How to skip to first song in FolderB?
Mine is a W8 and hence it's the touch screen infotainment system.

You can't. At least I haven't found a way to do it and believe me I've tried! It's a very annoying interface which is not intuitive at all, at least the music part of it.

Thanks. I got a reply in the other thread from sidwadia.

I have used the same with my MP3 CDs & Ipod genre change,
cheers |
I tried it today but didn't work. I was wondering if its just me.
Is there a difference in the firmware? How to get the firmware version?
Another issue with the music system is the so called "One hour mode". The system remembers the last song you played only for 1 hour after switching the key off. If you start the car after 1 hour, it starts playing from the beginning.

That music playing from the beginning is again an inconvenience. I hope they fix these things during the software updates.
Also, if you press the << button after pressing the List button, the selection goes back to the first folder in the storage media. Invariably, the music that you would've copied most recently would be in the end, so the system will make you scroll all the way down again!
