Why is it said not to drive fast before 1000km?

I've always wanted to know this.....in all user manual's its written that one should not drive their car above 80kmph or something until the 1st 1000km..nor should they do high rev gear changes..but WHY? what's so special in the first 1000km? isnt 10km enough lol...
