Porsche Carrera GT Fuel Tank : Where is it?

I don't see it. Where is it? If it is in the firewall, which is a concept I never understood, isn't it dangerous to have it there? Isn't the entire purpose of a firewall to maintain a safe barrier from the potentially dangerous innards ? Or is the carbon fiber so strong the structural integrity isn't compromised by placing a fuel tank in between the walls?

The gap doesn't seem large enough to fit a tank :/

Re: Carrera Gt Fuel Tank

They removed the "clothing" for display purposes at the DuPont Registry.

I guess this would be the gearhead's equivalent of undressing a supermodel . LOL.

Re: Carrera Gt Fuel Tank

The bulk head on which the rollover bars are mounted, is the fuel tank! Size is 24 gallon, it's sandwich construction, the actual tank is inside the whole bulkhead is built around it, single piece.

is this the norm for all rear engined super-cars? Instead of tightly packaging everything why not place the fuel tank above the tranny?

It's not a norm, but when people are paying for a close to compotition cousins , F1, GT,etc. The manufacture have to do it, plus added benefit, weight distribution is not effected by placing the tank in that position, remember that full and empty tank will add and reduce weight, this effects handling, so to keep the handling neutral between this weight variations. All F1 car have the tank in that center of the car.
And the carrera GT was designed as a competition car, but new regulation meant it could not be used.
Plus placing the tank as you mentioned, will cause trouble accessing those parts of the car, of maintenance and repairs.
