For car, the crank time came down to under 3 seconds. I drive very passively and never go beyond 2.5K rpm in any gear. This made my engine go very very soft and in turn lead to poor pickup and delayed cranking.

I poured in half bottle for a 20 Ltr fillup and got back original pep after about 120 Kilo.

Hi prithm,
I did not understand this.

Does restricting to 2500 rpm cause poor pickup and delayed cranking? If yes, what are the reasons?

And in case of my Duro, I have not yet tried cleaning the carburetor with Acetone. Will ask the service station to do this at the next service.

Will update here about the effect of Acetone on Petrol.

Just today, I started with Acetone (2.5 ml / lit) addition to Petrol. .

I saw a recent case in Bajaj service station, where the plastic connector tube got mushy on the inside when the driver used "Home Brewed" Acetone and flowed into the carb.

Yes. If you do not practice variable speed, this is expected and not an issue.

To counter this, many of us do this over any one weekend in a month. Driving car in a open highway (during lean traffic) and make it cross its usual speed limit to make sure parts workout as they should and engine gets a rejuvenation.

Classic example, my dad had a TVS XT moped which he used to drive only @25. When I took it over from him, it struggled a lot with my driving habits. One quick visit to nearest mechanic and he was able to clean the jets and bring it back to life.

Driving vehicles at variable speed is recommended and appreciated. And this is done in incremental steps for break-in or run-in stages (brand new vehicles).

Acetone is very potent. Be careful when using it. Avoid all contacts with skin and handle it away from body and always in tail wind scenarios and never in head wind.

You can literally soak the complete carb (after removing all plastic and rubber parts) overnight or more to get a sparkling clean outcome.

Thanks Vikram.

Ask for nail polish remover - the plain variety (some varieties have glycerine added to it as also a tinge of colour and sometimes a mild perfume too - DON"T use these!)

This is the scenario I was discussing earlier. Very very dangerous to try all these desi varieties. Might end up with overhaul.

I had added 2.5 cc / lit Acetone in my gearless scooter (Mahindra Duro) 10 days back.

I started feeling the difference (subtle) after driving 50-60 km. By 250 km, the difference was noticeable. Even my daughter passed a remark that the scooter feels smoother to drive and accelerates more easily.

Yesterday the tank was almost empty. I have filled the tank full with 2.5 cc / lit Acetone again. I plan to stop Acetone addition after emptying this tank.

I have changed the spark plug yesterday, the old one was good but it was in service for more than 4.5 years (around 50000 km). I changed the engine oil and transmission oil too; did it myself. I also plan to get CVT overhaul done at ASS and change / overhaul the suspension.

After this, I plan to try boric powder in the engine oil.

Another two scooters are at the service of the other family members. So, I don't mind trials on Duro.

A friend of mine is curious about this thread. He owns a Pulsar 150.

Anybody still adding acetone to petrol?

I guess this paper should settle the issue, except regarding wear and tear.

Regarding wear and tear it is also mentioned in the article:
Quote:

However,
acetone can also dissolve in water to form emulsion, which causes
corrosions of metals. Consequently, the engine fuel system as well
as gasoline must be completely free of water, otherwise corrosions
will happen quickly to the fuel line, leading to wide-ranging
reform in the fuel system, and perhaps worst of so if corrosion/
damage occurred while driving. Add to that, the acetone is an
effectual corrosive to rubber and plastic; when the acetone comes
into contact with any rubber/plastic fuel system components, they
will be dissolved away, which leads to extensive repairs/replace/
damage of such components. Thus, fuel system must not contain
any rubber or plastic components whether there is water in the
system/fuel or not. As a recommendation, the fuel system components
must be made of high quality metals before using acetone
in the engine, otherwise there will be serious problems that cannot
be remedied.
However, the problem that is mentioned is more likely to happen with 10% mixture.
