Use of Chemistry in Automobiles

Hey all. I'm a noob to the forum and was to make a school project on the above mentioned topic and thought tbhp is probably the best place to be at.

I'm in 12th. And this is supposed to be my CBSE Chemistry Finals Project.

The simple idea is to aware the reader of chemical substances, compounds, metals, metal alloys, plastics, composites, etc. put to use in the cars of today.

I have planned to cover the major components one-by-one. Then explaining the use and manufacturee of each component and then comparing the material used to make it previously and currently. Then some chemistry stuff about the current substance being used.

The parts I've planned to cover are:
1. Engine
2. Chassis
3. Brakes
4. Body Panels
5. Exhaust System
6. Wheels
7. Tires
8. Airbags
9. Interiors (Upholstery, dash, etc)
10. Catalytic Converters
11. Nitrous Oxide Kit
12. Fuel (I know thats not a car component, but how could u make a project on this topic and leave it behind )

So I was hoping from inputs from the members.
Websites, Reports, Journals, Researches, Projects on allied topics, etc. may be of huge help.

Thanks in Advance.
And once I'm done with the project I'll sure share it on this thread

Nikhilj, a simple google search will provide a start to your research. Then, depending on the level of complexity & depth you want to go, a few pdf books on automotive manufacturing materials & processes will help you along.

nikhilj, you need to do your own search on the net. Start with the link given below. It's a running topic and you can put up your questions there. Apart from this, member aargee has also given some link. Check those out too.

Wish you all the best.
