Need some urgent info. Does BMW sell only the extended warranty as a stand alone package or does one compulsorily need to buy a BSI package to get extended warranty benefits? |
I think they are both separated now, since the BSI offered is not Ultimate which included extended warranty.

I've heard 2 different stories from the same dealership (Platino Classic, Kochi) about this. First they were ready to offer me extended warranty (should've made the payment then only and closed it) and now they are saying its not possible. Extremely irritating. Not able to get my car serviced because of this (its my first service). Anyway, I've written to BMW India. Hope they send me quick reply.

It is a build upon package. Buy BSI Plus and then add the Repair Inclusive. Once clubbed together, it is equivalent to hitherto sold BSI Ultimate.
I'd recommend to start with 3 Years 60,000 kms and top-up basis your driving.
Premium car owners with experience, can anyone guide me on the service package scene these days? Having enjoyed a stress-free with the 5y/100k BSI on the E90, I am a bit iffy to step across to Audi although the 520d simply does not interest me. Also the BSI plans seem to have gotten WAY too expensive to be a worthy proposition now, looking back at my bills.

In my experience, my usage of 10K km per year doesn't look like a good fit for these prepaid service packages. If I were to buy a car now, I will just buy extended warranty and nil-depreciation insurance and skip the service package. BMW doesn't sell extended warranty separately, you have to buy their most expensive BSI to get extended warranty. And you are right, the BSI prices seems to have gone up significantly.
Friends, My father has decided to purchase E class. I tried getting the information from various resources but in vain. what is the expected cost of service for each service. let us say, how much will the service cost for E class on 15K, 30K, 45K, 60K, 75K etc... When I go to the Toyota sevice manual, everything is listed of what will be changed and service engineer will give the approx service cost.
I like to know similarly, what will be the service cost for E class.
I've searched the Forums, including the Directory as best as I can and have not been able to find a good recommendation for an Independent Workshop located in Mumbai, who specializes in Mercedes maintenance/servicing.
Any suggestions or recommendations?

On an average one service of E class will cost approximately 50,000 as far as I know.. There might be variations depending on the dealers and type of service as well.
Well my E class just returned after her first service visit at 15600 km. Total damage Rs 55200/-. Had the front brake pads replaced also. Thankfully my rear pads were replaced by Mercedes on goodwill. Saved something.lol:
Isn't it a tad too early for a replacement of brakes. I wonder what kind of reliability/durability these german cars have to replace brakes within 20K kms. Brakes actually need replacements from 70K kms to 1Lkm and sometimes longer.
Brakes are subject to individual use. My Sonata when sold at 60k km still did not need a replacement ,for it never saw triple digit speeds. As for the merc, it was born on the highway. I guess you pay a price for high speed braking. In fact the new pads will run good for another 30k km. Thats what an E class owner said, replaced parts fair better than stock.

Brake pads and rotors of my friend's E250 CDi replaced after only 8000 km of very hard driving. Total damage : Rs.60000
Could somebody throw some light on the service cost for a BMW 5 , without BSI and an A6 at 15000km.
Thanks in advance
Which version of E class have you finalized. A lot depends on the way the car will be used. The car is fun to drive and with spirited driving the brake pads are a casualty. Normal First service on E200 CGI works out to Rs.16,000 for change of oils and filters.
This is a very informative thread. Thanks for all your contributions.
I've got my eye on a few used BMW 5 series available in Bangalore. My questions
1. Is it possible to buy an extended warranty / BSI package from the local BMW dealer if the current car doesn't have either?
2. Is there a limitation on what BMW will cover if I buy from an outside private person and one that's not BMW certified?
3. How worthy is the warranty that the second hand car dealer gives (typically 6 months, I think)? Any experiences?
I'd love to hear your views before I plunge myself in super charged burning of my savings account. :)
