A few Skoda Rapid customers have experienced the following problems related to their fuel injection systems:

• Engine vibration / misfiring at cold start.

• Engine vibration / misfiring with white smoke.

• The engine judders or misfires at idling.

• The engine sometimes stalls, but starts again straight away

• Loud combustion noises (pinking) when accelerating lightly between 1800 to 2000 rpm.

• After switching off the ignition, the auxiliary cooling fans are activated.

• Engine jerking & knocking noise

Skoda has issued 3 Advisories in this regard and the solutions suggested are according to the nature of the problem. These advisories are attached to this thread.

Please note that not all cars have these issues (I have not experienced any of them) and in such cases just a software update would do. Replacement of injectors, as recommended in one of the advisories, would be necessary only in cases where the problem is severe.

Fan working after engine shut-down is there in my sample from DAY 1.

How is it with yours? Does it need correction?

You've stumbled upon what is a good practice but seldom followed. If you refer the owners manual, it asks you to keep the engine idling for 2 minutes after a long distance / heavy load / high stress run to help the engine cool down.

This would include:

1. Navigating severe traffic jams
2. Continuous stop-go traffic
3. Most drives when the car is new, as increased friction leads to increased heat. (Fans come on more often when the car is new)
4. Long distance drive with heavy load.
5. Although not technically required in current VW cars, it is still a good practice to do this to protect the turbo.

So, if you've been through any of the conditions mentioned in 1 - 4 above, it would be advisable to idle the engine for two minutes to reduce the heat build up in the engine.

The fan comes on when the sensors detect a higher degree of heat in the radiator but this will not happen if you follow the above procedure and protect your engine.
