Re: Scorpio ECU Issues

My local mechanic has a contact with a breaker and arranged for a second hand ECU which we tried with total success . The car started perfectly in the first try and we drove around with no noticeable problem .
I have been given a replace warranty by the guy for a month .
So now I am going to have two ECU ,s in my car one which is perfect and the other as a standby in case of a failure .

Guess we must now have qualified engineers in service centers, in order to handle the higher amount of sophistication found in newer cars. Come to think of it, manufacturers employ well educated graduates in R&D and they churn out such products. And when they develop problems, repairs are attempted by mechanics, who have much basic knowledge about the working. Yes some mechanics are masters by experience but that is mostly related to mechanical stuff and not ECUs and the like.

Sir, if the immobiliser was a part of the central locking system, as said by the previous posts, I do not understand why the ECU would have to check immobiliser. The logic you stated is correct for cars which have a factory fitted immobiliser. Both my cars behave this way. If I use a wrong key, the immobiliser light will blink, and the car wont fire up on cranking. This is done by the ECU based on the signal from the key detector.

Suppose an after-market immobiliser was used, which came along with the central locking system, it should use a crude method to immobilise the engine, either by disabling the starter or preventing engine firing, ie to start. So, when wiring the central locking, I think they have made the central locking system control power to ECU. I feel it is done this way. At least going by the fact that another member has come across the same problem.

It cranks but will not start until the check light is seen on the console ,after which the car runs flawlessly ,till we need to switch off and on again same problem of switching the key on and off till the check light is seen

OOps ! i missed that post completely.

BTW! Immobilizer has everything to do with ECU. It will not allow the engine to crank. Try with a cheap duplicate key without RFID in it.

Re: Scorpio ECU Issues

I am trying to figure out the manufacturing date , need to know the format such as dd/ mm/ yy , as I suspect that my ECU has been swapped by the service guy as my car is older than the ECU .and has never been replaced .

Re: Scorpio ECU Issues

The car has been registered in march 2007 and the ecu is from 2010.
Can I approach the company for investigating their records ,to find out the vin no and registration of the car on which this part was fitted ?

You should, immediately. But, that may not be the manufacturing date.

Talk to Bosch service and ask them to trace the label.

Re: Scorpio ECU Issues

Today I called the authorised service centre which so far is the only place where my car has been repaired all these year and told them about this issue .
They have suggested that I bring in the car and they will check the vin and injector numbers on the ECU .
This procedure is done on manufacture of the car for purpose of theft security.
This can be erased by the authorised dealer only as the software cannot be changed by unauthorised people .
So I am now curios to know these facts ,and will keep you posted as this is getting more and more interesting by the day .

Re: Scorpio ECU Issues

I have confirmed that the number is not the manufacturing date and the ECU does belong to this car .
One more interesting thing i scanned the lable with my cell and got the part number and when i did a search of the part number i managed to get the parts catalogue of the scorpio Try it on the picture its interesting .

Re: Scorpio ECU Issues

Hi..
Good to know your problem has been sorted out.

you can try to play with your old ECU, try to identify the problem.

I did solve a problem with my zen ecu without replacement.
I scanned the ECU using a OBD scanner, it showed no errors.

I located the problem to a small capacitor in TP sensor circuit, but for me my problem has been solved without the capacitor replacement :-). So i didnt worry about the capacitor.
Just cleaning the ECU solved the problem.

Reference to my experience with ECU
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techni...ml#post3107952

All you need is a multimeter and the service manual to diagonse the problem.

Just measure the voltage at every pin and refer to service manual for known values.
This way you should be able to atleast locate the problem area.

Cheers!

Re: Scorpio ECU Issues

The bar denotes the model number of the ecu.
