EVI - A startup that can convert any car into an Electric Vehicle

Quote:
Electric Vehicle India (EVI), a startup from Mumbai, founded by Priyank Dahanukar have designed and developed a retro fitted kit to convert existing vehicles into hybrid or electric vehicle
Quote:
Talking about the kit Priyank shared – EVI kit does not affect the engine but enables it more. It is like a 3 feet by 2 feet blackbox with a motor, controller for the motor, chargers and BMC (battery management system) and about 800-1000 batteries in one unit. There are different kits depending on the horse power of vehicles, ranging from 850 cc to 2500 cc. To charge the battery fully, it takes around 7-8 hours and just 8 units of electricity and the speed of 100-120km can be achieved. With EVI kits installed in vehicles, the option of keeping the petrol/diesel source to run the vehicle still remains and the source of energy can be changed with just a switch. I have been working on the idea for the last 4 years but the markets opened only after the hybrid and electric vehicle policy by Indian government was released.
This looks like an interesting concept. I'm surprised why no established brand has come up with such a concept yet?

Re: EVI-a startup innovating with a kit that can convert any vehicle into electric ve

The biggest problem for the established brand is mentioned in one of the paragraphs in that article: "currently working with a variety of development partners including OEMs, Tier 1s, vehicle integrators and test centers". No Car manufacturer would like to put something in the market that needs "Vehicle Integrators". Almost all of the established brands have either products, prototypes and initiatives of their own, with the ultimate objective being "electric or hybrid car". Returns on a car are far higher than returns on an after-market fitment. Fully built electric bicycles and scooters out of China outsold the kits for the same.

I have seen an aftermarket Automatic gear shifter from Korea. Was / is being installed by a party in Bangalore. The biggest problem was, as it will be for the for anyone supplying after-market kits, is the quality of INSTALLATION. Lack of quality in installation is the single biggest reason for failure.

I wish them good luck - it is a good business initiative.

Electric Vehicle Technology developed in India

Electric Vehicle India , a company based in Mumbai, is developing hybrid, plug in hybrid and battery electric powertrains for use in vehicles, presumably they are also developing electric conversion kits for vehicles. This is in step with National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020 (NEMMP). Expect more companies to enter this space. Also, they are touting their solution to be affordable
