Actually it's the machinists job, not the mechanics.
If you can get a good quality crank from a scrapped vehicle, see if you can pick up the whole engine. Should not cost very much more. As you have found out, Baleno (the old one) spares = SGP = very expensive.

We managed to get an aftermarket crank shaft (@13K). The engine is being removed and opened. I was not in town for the past one week. The mechanic said the crank shaft is being sent to the "lathe shop" for fitting it into the engine. I did not quite understand what is a lathe shop and why this job is not being done at his premises itself. He explained me over the phone but I could not really follow what he said and did not bother to ask him to repeat. The whole engine seems to be taken to that place and will come back in a day or two as per him. Would like to know from here if someone knows about these process.
I just wish the whole of it gets fitted well and the vehicle is back in shape.
