Re: Air-con sucks up too much power : Maruti A-Star

Dear Sankar,

Agree with your point on scroll and vane type but at low cubic capacity of the compressor itself, the difference in efficiency is merely theoretical.

As far as downsizing is concerned, you will probably have to consider two things:

1. How much will it affect the cooling inside the passenger cabin of your car?
2. Will such retro-fitment entail some modifications to the mounting / will it also entail change of HP, LP pipes, other related systems, etc.?

If I were you, I would do a thorough cost-benefit analysis before venturing into it. Your local AC expert might be of some help in this case.

Do keep us posted.

Happy Driving!

Re: Air-con sucks up too much power : Maruti A-Star

I faced the same issue in my Maruti Zen. It used to be so low on power that I could only drive it in 1st-2nd gear with AC ON. The service centres in Bangalore gave an estimate upto Rs. 15,000 for replacing filters, doing a full service and decarbonization.

Later it was found out to be an issue as small as a choked air filter which was replaced for about 200 bucks.
