Maruti recalls Swift, Dzire & Ertiga: Fuel filler neck replacement

The recall, if issued, will be the largest recall of a single car model in India

Quote:
The affected vehicles, manufactured in 2013 and 2014, will see a replacement of the defective component, the fuel neck filler, which is connected to the fuel tank. The supplier for the said component is JBM, in which Maruti itself has a 29.28% stake

ACI is also running the news now. But even they are not so sure.

Maruti may recall 1.5 lakh Dzires

The recall if confirmed will surely be put by the MSIL website. The last recall for changing the steering column had a page for customers to check the status of their cars with the VIN.

OK - so the recall is about a loose fitting fuel cap.

Yes, This could cause the fuel to leak and/or evaporate from the filler neck that is loose as per Maruti!

re: Maruti recalls Swift, Dzire & Ertiga: Fuel filler neck replacement

As expected, due to part sharing, looks like the recall is extended to include the Swift and Ertiga as well. Looks like vehicles are going to be called in from as early as April 15th. More details below.

Has anyone got official confimration from Maruti on this?

Thanks for the link as I had already expected this when I saw the recall only was for Swift Dzire. Since Maruti uses same parts for Swift, Swift Dzire and Ertiga in many areas of the cars, problem must be faced by all three.

I did get in contact with my service advisor regarding this issue. He said he will get back to me with details regarding this and when should my car be brought in for the replacement, if needed.

Shall update the thread as and when I get an update.

Could be our couldn't be affected. But AFAIK & IIRC the fuel opener neck etc ask look same in the Ritz, Swift, Swift Dzire and Ertiga. So it better to ask your service advisor regarding the recall status.

Wait for the VIN/batch or manufacturing dates which MUL should put up. Accordingly, getting in touch with MASS should help, if MUL has updated them with replacement parts & VIN nos.

re: Maruti recalls Swift, Dzire & Ertiga: Fuel filler neck replacement

Here is the official recall notice taken from the Maruti Suzuki website:

Quote:
Issued in Customer Interest

Maruti Suzuki to recall 103,311 vehicles (Ertiga, Swift and DZire) starting 11th April

New Delhi, April 11, 2014: Maruti Suzuki India Limited today announced that it will proactively replace ‘fuel filler neck’ of 103,311 vehicles (42,481 units of DZire, 47,237 units of Swift and 13,593 units of Ertiga) manufactured between 12th November 2013 and 4th February 2014.

This exercise is limited to vehicles within the above specified range and does not pertain to any other vehicle of the Company.

In the affected vehicles there is a possibility of fuel smell and in extreme condition there may be some fuel leakage, if fuel is filled upto the Fuel Cap, beyond ‘Auto cutoff level’.

Maruti Suzuki dealers will contact owners of all vehicles in the above mentioned range. The Company will replace the ‘fuel filler neck’ free of cost.

As part of its regular Quality tests in the manufacturing process, the Company noticed the problem. The new fuel filler neck is being progressively despatched to the dealer workshops.

Considering the number of vehicles impacted, the Company is building up stock of the required component at its dealer workshops, before inviting customers.

Users of Maruti Suzuki cars (Swift, Dzire and Ertiga) who have bought their cars post 12th November 2013 can check the Company website www.marutisuzuki.com to ascertain if their car is among the above mentioned vehicles. This information will be available from 11th April onwards.

The customer is requested to fill in the chassis number (MA3 followed by 14 digit alpha-numeric number) on the computer screen. The chassis number is embossed on the vehicle ID plate and is also in the vehicle invoice / registration documents.

Customers may also contact the nearest Maruti Suzuki dealer workshop to ascertain if their vehicle is among the above vehicles.

re: Maruti recalls Swift, Dzire & Ertiga: Fuel filler neck replacement

The recall notice issued and I did try searching for my Swift ZDi.

See below:

The Recall notice on their website:
Maruti recalls Swift, Dzire & Ertiga: Fuel filler neck replacement-untitled.jpg

Notice and place to check for your car's status:
Maruti recalls Swift, Dzire & Ertiga: Fuel filler neck replacement-untitled1.jpg

My car's Chassis number entered and yes, my car is affected by this issue reported:
Maruti recalls Swift, Dzire & Ertiga: Fuel filler neck replacement-untitled2.jpg

Since my car is has done 9856 kms as of now, the car will go the 10K service in two days so this issue of recall too would be sorted out depending on the parts inventory they have.

My car is under the recall. Will I get a call or do I have to visit the service center?
