Ford India recalls 20,752 units of EcoSport

Ford India has recalled 20,752 units of the EcoSport crossover to check their fuel and vapour lines for corrosion in the long-term. This recall involves vehicles manufactured at the Chennai plant between January 2013 and September 2014.

Additionally, the company will also check the vehicles for reorienting the wiring harness related to the correct deployment of side airbags.

Ford is writing to customers and asking them to contact their local Ford dealer so that the necessary parts can be replaced. The work will be carried out free of cost.

Earlier this month, Ford Australia had recalled the EcoSport for a wiring defect, which could result in the side airbags not deploying correctly in the case of an accident. In 2013, Ford India had recalled the EcoSport diesel to reposition the Glow Plug Control Module.

So looks like the Fuel pipe replacement is only for the EcoBoost but the wiring harness applies to all Titanium models with 6 airbags.

Yep, that sounds right - mine's an Aug 2013 EcoBoost variant with 6 airbags, so I get both FSAs

Open question - does the fuel tube/vapour tube FSA appear for anyone with the 1.5L petrol EcoSport?

Happy to see manufacturer's recalling vehicles to change parts or inspect them.
My Titanium Diesel is not on the recall list.

Good you dodged that bullet Given that your vehicle was manufactured in the affected timeframe, I presume your's a Titanium and not a Titanium (O), so you skip the side-airbag FSA, and being a diesel you skip the rusting FSA.

Yeah, my first reaction on seeing the 2 FSAs was a sinking feeling - particularly since individual service centres will be performing the remedial action.

Having said that, I'm happy that again Ford is being transparent about the issue and publicizing it (similar to the glow plug recall). I'll wait to see how Ford or its dealers formally reach out to and inform me about this to give my final verdict.

This attitude from Ford is particularly refreshing especially in light of other threads that talk about VAG DQ200 DSG failures being managed silently instead of proactively, and the whole craziness about the Chevrolet Enjoy receiving a new engine!

That said, I wonder how the common people (i.e. non TBHPians) view such recalls - would they view the EcoSport as a flawed product, or would they recognize and acknowledge Ford's honesty in holding their hand up and fixing it for free?

Got an official mailer from Ford that my Ecosport is affected by this recall, it contained my ecosport's chassis number and the relevant FSA. Very transparent procedure and thumbs up to Ford for that.
In comparison, my Vento was manufactured during a period where the injectors had issues (there is an advisory for it)and silly VW is waiting for me to get stranded on the road to change them, no recall and no replacement despite complaining.

Could you blank out the personal info and paste a copy of that mailer here? Amongst those who've commented on this recall, you're the first one to get this, so it'll be nice for the rest of us to see this.

Re: Ford India recalls 20,752 units of EcoSport

Called up Kairali Ford service in TVM, they say they haven't got any details on the recall from Ford. And they would call the customers once they get it. I had a long trip planned on Friday, so wanted to do it before that. Looks like I would have to wait.

Anybody had a better luck?
