Skoda Octavia vRS - Bent Valves

Hello BHP'ians,

A friend recently purchased a pre-worshipped Mk1 Octavia VRs (2005 model).
Now, he has a habit of occasionally red-lining the car; until two days back, while he was cruising at 60-70kmph suddenly the car stalled and he had to get it towed to garage.

Upon inspection, the mechanic told that because of water pump failure the valves got bent and he suggested getting the head changed instead of repairing the valves.

My friend wants to know if this is the best solution or are there any alternatives? Now since he is under going this overhaul he also wants to know if any performance mods are possible.

Please chip in with your valuable suggestions.

Water pump failure or camshaft belt broke? Sounds more like latter. If head is damaged there is no altenative
