hey guys ,heard my friend talkin about the new a6 audi which has something called a quattro in it which is supposed to be revolutionary. what exactly is it and also do any of the other cars like mercs or bmw's have something similar?

Hey Byram,

Quattro is basically Audi's term for all wheel drive.
It has been around for more than two decades on audi cars!
If you look on the front grille of the audis, there is a small badge that says "quattro" on the AWD cars.

However one of the new additions to audi production cars is the DSG Gearbox. could that be what our friend was talking about?

bmw's do have AWD. mercs have them too(not very common), but not in all models as Audis.

Audi Quattro is the GODFATHER of AWD. All the new WRC cars are children of the Audi Quattro. The Lancia Delta Integrale , The Subaru Impreza WRX (STi, WR1 etc) , The Mitsubishi Evo (all) , Ford Escort Cosworth / Focus RS. ETC .. All Brilliant, and none of them would exist, if were'nt for one car. THE AUDI QUATTRO!
The Daddy in every way - not only did it spawn these amazing children, but it revolutionarised motorsport and changed the way people thought of performance cars, FOREVER!
They invented AWD on RoadCars in 1981.. Infact since the arrival of Quattro, no WRC Car has won a championship without 4WD system. (Since 82 that is!).

correct me if i'm wrong but as far as i know the only BMWs having AWD are the X suvs..
Mercs, of course, the 4Matic ones..

Hey aah78,

Any bmws with an "x" have AWD, not only the X5 or X3, but also the 330xi for example....
