hey guys,

i was wondering if theres ne way to clock the digital odometers we r getting in cars these days...like the one on an accent crdi.

I dont intend to clock my car...but jus wanted to know how it can be done if it can be done in the first place.

It can be done - I have seen it done on a BMW - a colleague had exceeded the annual milaege allowed for his leased 530d so he got the car serviced by a BMW specialist to avoid the official BMW service record being updated and then they plugged in a laptop and shaved 2000km off. In fact, it is easier to tamper compared to mechanical odometers

Hi,
Yeah its true, Simpler than a mech odo. Plug in, if the system using has the rights you can change it. For example Ford dealers can not change any variables in the car, all they an do is clear error codes, flash the memory and change small variables such as fuel type etc as they are not given the rights by the company. But off late you do get hand held reprogrammers which can help out in shaving off a few thousand kms . Do a search on google... you will get a million sites with the info you want.

One more question...

if i take out the battery for some amount of time...will it reset the ecu? n will the odometer be affected? n resetting of the ecu....is it ok?

well.. wagonR/alto have a digital ODO, it doesn't reset by disconnecting the battery....

Digital ODOs don't count backwards while reversing the car... .. ha

...
onething....
do all cars have electronic speedo?
i.e u switch off the engine... and the speedo shows Zero!

yeah while rolling with the ignition off....my speedo shows zero.
