yup a colleague bought a brand new balck alto, drove for couple of kms other day and i still cant figure out why maruti did this.. unless they are planning to stop the old 800 model n make alto 800 the base version, anyways they are building 1.1 engine for wagon r then why not keep it as an option with alto..

damn sad the car wont even pull with ac on... a very good city car otherwise..

Thats exactly what Maruti has in mind. I'd say by 2005 end, the M800 would be phased out due to tighter safety regulations. This is where the Alto will take over as Maruti's cheapest car.

Well, for 1 thing, the profit margins on a Wagon R or a Zen are much higher than the Alto.

What really makes me laugh is how Maruti has been able to position an older version of a car in a higher price bracket! This has got to be a first for any manufacturer anywhere!! Can you imagine the profit they must be making on the Zen!! Amazing!

I agreee with u .
unless maruti does some major changes the zen has to stopped.
only if maruti cud cum with a new version of the zen like the 1.6gtx say witha 1.3 L engine, little more leg room like hyundai did to the xing and wider tires .
y is maruti not doing anything

usage of SPEED 93 in your alto would not make much differece , you can go for normal speed 91 , Speed 93 is for engines with high comp ratio .So speed93 wont harm your engine but it doesnt give any extra benifit for the extra money you pay.

I have a alto vx 1.1 and boy i love the car. Just wondering why maruti could have stopped it. i suppose the maintenance should not be a problem since the wagon r has the same engine. but do u guys think the resale value will go down. mine is a 2002 model???

Alto and Zen...
Alto has ONLY one issue which makes it impossible to be a comfortable family car. Everything is so small in there.

Zen on the other hand is more open.

I am not talking about 5 people ... Just 4.

All the space in Alto they put in the boot!

Maruti can't even do small adjustments in stock Suzuki cars, to make it.. better for india. Its one lethargic company.
