Hi, I couldn't find an existing thread for this, so creating a new one. I bought a new Ecosport diesel last week. Everything was okay since delivery. The day before yesterday, I filled up the diesel full tank. Henceforth I am hearing a fuel slosh sound from the rear while braking. Is this common?

This is strange, I have never heard any such sounds.
Could you check if there aren't any loose water bottles around in the boot which might cause such noise.

Oh I hear this too in my Swift. It's quite normal.

I hear it in my Figo, when the fuel tank is almost full, while on bumpy roads.

The Fuel Slosh sound is a normal thing....a minor irritant...you will soon get used to it. it usually happens on a full tank and slowly decreases in intensity as the tank empties.

I remember, after I bought my Manza, even I was initially tense whenever that dhup - dhup sound happened whenever I braked. Have now got used to it myself.

Had that problem in our 2004 Tata Indicab, and since it was used as a taxi, the fuel tank was filled up most of the time.

Needless to say, it always had the slosh sound when braking and even on broken roads.

Haven't had that irritant in any other car in my knowledge.

How much fuel did you fill in the tank? Unless you know you're not going to be within reach of a filling station for a long time, don't overfill the tank. Just leave the nozzle on "Auto" and take it out once it stops pumping in fuel.

Not normal, get it checked! It could be something else too, I have never heard this in any of my cars.

I guess most modern cars have baffles in the fuel tank to prevent fuel from sloshing around.

I hear it in my Jeep because of the fuel tank's position (under the front passenger seat). Don't hear it in my other cars though. The sound might depend on the fuel tank design (baffles), cabin insulation, fuel tank position etc.

If it bothers you, just crank the stereo volume up :D. This is one of the reasons you'll never hear me complain about rattles.

It gets worse when you're conscious of it! Motorcycles slosh around too, if im not careful with my Yezdi when the tank if full, feul tends to spill out.
Its normal though...ive heard my stomach make sloshing sounds when i fill up on H2O and move around more than i want to.

Just saying - H2O doesn't catch on fire like petrol does.

Fuel sloshing is generally due to an over full fuel tank - filled to the brim. Just ask the pump guy to stop when the auto cutoff stops the fuel flow, instead of topping up the tank because "2000 rupees ho jaayega sir".

If he forgets to fasten the fuel cap properly after that you're looking at a fuel spill and a possible fire - or at least some ruined paintwork if the fuel seeps out onto your car body.

Where is the space left to slosh around? I thought that its the little empty space in the tank that allows for the movement of the liquid.

Dont have the time or the interest to read the whole thing right now(seems pretty technical/acadamic) but what i gather from the first sentence of the intro is that liquid sloshing is attributed to a partially filled tank. Now im not saying no inertial waves affect a fully filled tank. But with reference to the thread title Im asuming its the sound of the fuel bouncing off of the tank which must mean there is some space for it to move and hit the tank hard enough to be heard inside the cabin.

I could be totally wrong, i guess i'll have to read up after all, or some benevolent soul will explain it to me in layman's terms.stupid:
