Simple reason, to sum up what everyone else said: Because there are very few Palios in the first place compared to Zens

Hey naveen ... Getting a FFE for a 1.6 is a very complicated job so putting a turbo in that cramped up 1.6 engine bay can not be called a minor alteration.

Well, I simply see the esteem zen or honda as cars that are sold more in the market. They have cheaper parts and hence cheaper to repair. They have been tinkered with more, and are tried and tested. So I have a 'safer' margin for error, in the sense that i would feel that faults that might emerge would be easier to repair. And yeah, the Jap cars usually seem easier to modify. I once read or heard somewhere, that the most commonly modified car in the states was the Civic. On the contrary, Palios are not as common as the Jap cars, but frankly i like the idea of a turboed 1.6! Even though i read above that the Palio is heavy for a drag, the plus side is that it has a solid shell which would make for a good platform for a higher output engine.

Palio uses niche technologies, Change to fuel map and adjusting the fuel pump is extremely difficult. Currently I know someone who has been working on this...and we did find it difficult to make changes on the Engine performance.

The tuning for 1.6 GTX is at its optimum ..nothing much can be extracted.
Palio 1.6 is a driver's car and not a tuner's car.

All the Jap cars are detuned for FE and Engine life.
There are performance kits available which can easily tune the JAP car.
There is a perf kit available which can turn the sluggish NHC ZX to a 160 BHP beast

HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Obviously you've never driven a tuner Palio 1.6, or the 'someone' you know doesn't know his way around engines. I was the first to drive what is probably India's fastest Palio, and believe you me, it can be tuned. In stock form it's slower than a Vtec or a Baleno, by the way!

Can you please share some info on that?

1. What mods were done?
2. What was the power increase?
3. Was the car able to handle the increase?

Slower than a Vtec YES, but "faster" than a Baleno, even the seat of the pant feeling when you accelerate the 1.6 palio, feels faster than a Baleno.

Coming back to topic: I think another major factor is the sheer number of zens sold over palios...

Most of the people go for performance modification after driving around the stock car for sometime... Palio 1.6 never sold decent numbers... (Its a great car... But we still want only FE)... Zen, on the contrary is a nice zippy car, which feels good for modding, and has sold many many times over he palio...

Porting, polishing, filter, aggressive headers. Car is dead until 2500 rpm, but if you powershift around 5000 rpm your neck snaps. Impossible to say without a dyno. Suspension gave up.

I'm talking from personal experience here. Not ACI timings. And the 1.6 GTX is slower to 100, on a 400 m run, and around MMST.

I thought headers were poor little pieces of pipe that have hot gas passed thorough them every second of their lives. How can they ever get aggressive living like that?

the palio engine is de tuned by the cam timing ,event and phasing the inlet opens 00 deg before top dead centre, and closes 34deg after bdc
exhaustopens 24 deg bbdc and closes at00degafter tdc

so in short just cammming can really change the characteristics of the engine
check the other so called hot engine timings n ull know wht i say

Zero Overlap? At what lift were these numbers measured? This is interesting and hard to believe at the same time. Did you degree the cam?

I'm sorry if I offended you, raaj. But you cannot post statements here without facts. I understand you are a big fan of the Palio (so am I) but it is foolishness to come on board and post things like 'tuning for 1.6 GTX is at its optimum', when there are more experienced members, including tuners, on this forum.

I will eat my words and apologise again, if you can prove your claims.
