Yes, the current AL and Tata buses/trucks come with power steering. From the mid-90's I guess. Hydraulic only, no EPS for them. But enough for the maniacs to do ballet dances on road.

Actually battery life is better if there is charge/disharge, battery anyway deteriorates if not used at all.

EPS is DEFINITELY not the culprit for this. Some other factors are responsible. Please have your car checked out at an ASC.

What are the symptoms a failing power-steering pump would produce in a Santro?
What tests could be done to confirm that the pump was faulty?

It has been checked and found to be ok. Even other lxi's have the same pickup as mine. But I cannot forget the monstrous pickup the WagonR without EPS had.

Perhaps you need to repeat that test to confirm your earlier experience.
And do confirm that that Wagon was not modded.

I own a WagonR Vxi. It has EPS. I used to find it hard (especially at lower speeds when it is supposed to help) and kept complaining to the service provider. I was told that there is no serviceable setting in the power steering. But, the rack and pinion can be tightened and loosened to give easy or tough steering.

If it is a Lx1 or Vxi,this car has an Electronic Power steering

My experience for last 20 yrs with Japanese & American cars,
the EPS electronic power steering is best and reliable, I owned & used
Honda, Mazda 929, Chevrolet Caprice and Ford Grand Marquis latest.

Problems with Automatic transmission car I faced rarely when the engine
is off it is difficult to move the car to side of the road and steering become very hard. But this problem is due to the engine or battery, EPS
is in American cars is extremely reliable even in high speeds.

But I don't know in India what type of EPS system is fitted in the cars
available in Indian market. I have been in KSA for last 20 yrs, used to
to check Steering Oil once in 2-3 weeks, only if oil leeks steering
will be hard, otherwise it is very good. In the latest cars most of the
functions were controlled by computerized console in the car like in my Ford Mercury Grand Marquis. I think EPS is also controlled by speed
of the car.

I drove my Chevrolet Caprice without difficulty even I have injury to
my left hand few years back.
Ford Mercury Grand Marquis is also one of best luxury car, most of functions were powered, for example even the foot pedal were power adjusted, 8-way seat position power adjusted etc. Power steering in the car makes very confortable driving experience, whether you drive in City or highways.

My Palio GTX has a HPS and the feel is very confident on high speeds as well. I have driven Maruti Esteem and Zen with an EPS but didnt get the "FEEL".
BTW does Palio GTX has a speed sensitive HPS?

In my Indica even after balancing and aligning the pulling problem has maintained it status quo. The tata motors dealer says tyre tread wear is the cause, is it so?

So if in all matter EPS is better than HPS, then why do we have EHPS in 4WD honda CRV but EPS in 2WD honda crv. Accord/Cedia have EHPS.

EHPS - (electro/power assisted HPS) removes the problem of FE from HPS so how does EHPS compare with EPS?

My Ford ikon has the power steering. It only works when we start the car. This is not the case in my previous vehicle (Wagon R Lxi). The PS used to work even when the engine is switched off. Any particular reasons?

Also, my ford ikon feels a lot sturdy when driving on a highway than the Wagon R when I will be doing 100+ kmph while driving WagonR if a slight turn of steering wheel, the vehicle used to drift sideways.
