Ah - a straight forward shout out to Asian paints there for the colour palette by MSIL. God I miss those simple days of 80s and 90s where things were so relaxed and everything didn't lead to pennies. Today people get surprised to know that their refrigerator was painted by Nerolac - after 5-10 years of usage.

So many colours! Unlike today’s cars where we we get only 4 or 5 options. If I’m not wrong then Superior White, St. Germaine Red, Sandal Paste and Sabin were not launched in SB-308 800?

Awesome post , it seems the T2 M800 (launched in September 97) initially got many different colour options. Sadly most of these colours were discontinued by mid/late 98. I have over the last year spotted some M800s with rare colours, all these M800s are from late 97/early 98 era.

97 Ionian Blue M800 DX:

98 Oasis Green M800:

98 Dolphin Blue (or is it M. reddish blue?) M800:

Are you sure about this being the Ionian Blue? AFAIK Ionian Blue is a darker metallic blue. My ‘97 Esteem was Ionian Blue, even Zen’s in that era were available in that shade when the LX/VX trims were introduced. If you have the registration number of this 800, you can check it on the RTO app.

That said, I have NEVER seen this shade. I’d rather believe that this car was repainted locally and didn’t match the OEM shade.

Actually I did check the RTO app before posting about it, it read I. blue. Here in Guwahati colors are written like this, my 99 Omni is registered as P. red i.e short form for Phoenix Red. I personally had no idea how Ionian Blue looked like, so matched the name with the photo Leoshashi shared.

Don't know about the Esteem, for the 98 Zen the Blue color was called Cyprus Blue.

Here's a 98 ZEN VX brochure:

I doubt it's been repainted as I have seen the car closely, has all OEM parts like side beading, DX badge etc. From the photo Shashi shared, it's pretty obvious that many of these colors were introduced in September 97 & discontinued within a year. It is however possible that the color name entry was done wrongly during registration (very unlikely scenario).

True. Ionian Blue was a darker metallic shade of blue. I had posted pics here, perhaps you will be able to confirm:

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techn...ml#post4331548 (Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?)

Both Madisson and Ionian blue looked too similar and I won't be able to distinguish between them with accuracy.

This is the Ionian Blue in Esteem, much similar to the Cyprus Blue in Zen, only a little darker and more subtle. I believe it got carried over to the ‘98 facelift.

Below are some pics of an Esteem from the movie Sanju. Does anybody recognise this shade in the Esteem? It’s much like the Neptune Blue of 1993-1996 Maruti 800, but a bit darker and looks a little metallic in the movie. I checked it with the RTO and as with most commercial movies, this registration number is invalid. In a scene, I saw that the inside rear view mirror wasn’t prismatic, so it might be a 94/95/96 model. The shiny LX badge looks new, perhaps added later.

Does anybody remember the name of this tacky shade of green in the Maruti 800? I was 5 back then, my friend’s father owned this and I used to roast the hell out of her by taunting her dad’s taste of colours.

What was this colour called?

This colour was called Metallic Leaf Green, I believe it was available for a very brief period of time within 1997 itself, just before the SB308 was facelifted.

This shade of dark green was introduced in 1993 along with Neptune Blue to replace Maruti Green which got phased out.
I believe this color is called Harvest green. (The car in picture is my 1997 STD)

I am about to repaint the car in original shade. I am in Melbourne while the car is in Kerala. The mechanic has some difficulties in locating the paint mix for Harvest green. Where can I find details of Harvest green to help the mechanic?
