My OHC Vtec is not working and has not been working since I bought it. Never knew it was'nt until Viper pointed it out to me.
Tried to get it work by cleaning the solenoid valve and even the circuits were thoroughly checked by an autoelectrical expert but in vain.
What could the error be?? Any advices??

Sunil, perhaps you need a new solenoid. Another thing to check is oil pressure. Buzz me when you're back in Mumbai...

But on your VTEC can you make out when it comes on?
I never feel the "surge" or change in pitch as many ppl claim to feel/hear.

All that happens is the increased roar because of higher RPM.
With the stock cam the switch over is very smooth and cannot be heard.

So the only way to know whether the vtec is working or not is by checking the diagnostic codes.

Ideally one should not feel the switchover to the aggressive cam from the meeker cam

I guess revving real high, but engine delivering low power (which incidentally will lead to you not touching the top speed at particular gear) is one way to determine whether the vtec is workign or not.
aint it?

The change in engine note is quite obvious actually.

Atleast i've never heard it. Heres a vid i had shot when my car was bone stock, VTEC activates at around 35kmph in 1st, but you dont hear any distinct change in engine note.

In this vid, you can clearly hear the vtec kick in.

What RPM did the car hit when the Vtec got activated at 35kmph?

as I said earlier - is it the VTEC sound or the intake/exhaust/high RPM everthing together that creates the illusion of change in note?

because even i have not really heard any real change in sound while at VTEC RPMs

as i understand VTEC kicking in will change the cam lobes. i don't think you can hear that happen

i guess it should be the engine note.

For argument sake, will it be wise to sell off my 1.5 for a VTEC today considering the damage would be near about 1 lac? Or is it just not worth it?

I dont think its worth it. For 1 lac, you can turn your 1.5 into a real rocket.

You could probably buy a VTEC engine for less. Or a VTEC head + ECU + miscellaneous for even lesser. Then turn that into a rocket

bumping up an old thread again as it has been discussed in length.

I want to go for a Vtec but am not able to get too many in the mumbai market.
most models i am getting to se are 2001 models and i read that pre 2002 models have the jerking issue at lower speeds.

My dilemma is whether i should go ahead for a pre 2002 model and will it be ok.

Can the gurus help me please, GTO, Shantanu, your views would help me a lot.

Cheers,
Raj
