Duralloy is the patent for the wheel not the cap. The steel rims have composite alloy which adds benefits like heat dissipation added strength etc.

Don't mistake the cap for a duralloy wheel.

If that's the case, then they should have marketed the naked rim and not the one wearing a deceiving wheel cap .

Well, Isnt the cap that is making all the news here ? So people wouldn't believe the goodness of their duralloy which looks like steel. So they added the cap to make it look better like a alloy

Of-course cap is a cover over the bald hair. Who would like to have a naked steel rim these days. If you see all models which comes with rims, manufacturers have covered them with great looking caps which resemble alloy wheels. Check any manufacturer.
Tata just did a better job with the cap to hide the steel rim behind

Thanks for this expose GTO. Have you sought an official explanation from TAMO yet? Any luck?

And here it is straight from the horse's mouth: this is what Tata Motors have to say about these wheels on Twitter:

Tata Motors on Twitter

So, in short, it's just another newly designed steel wheel embellished with a fancy wheel cover and a misleading name. A response to Tata's tweet asks why not call it 'Durasteel' or something that's more in line with what the wheel is made of.

Maybe DurAlloy means dur se alloy dikhta hai saar..

Hair cannot be bald. The head or scalp usually is. In this case you would mean the wheel. Unfortunately an expert in this topic.

Technically, you can never win a case against Tata.
This is unethical business practices from Tata, it completely goes against the principles of JRD Tata. https://fdi.aurosociety.org/living-v...of-j-r-d-tata/

Re: Tata's "DurAlloy Wheel" is actually a steel rim with a plastic wheel cap!

Do they cost ₹4500 for a WHOLE SET of 4 steel wheels with such wheel-caps ?

If yes, then my opinion is that this is a branding issue, because regular steel wheels cost ~7-800/pc in the open market, plus wheel caps which cost ~₹300/pc for my FIAT. That's atleast ~₹1,000/- for an ordinary wheel.

Here, Tata has come up with a steel wheel that's specially designed and wheel covers that are specially designed to integrate with each other so as to look like a decently well designed alloy wheel. All the better if it's sold over the counter!

If there was malice in their mind, they'd have priced it at ₹12,000/- for the set. Let's reconsider the tone of this thread.

I believe it's Rs 4,500 just for the fancy looking caps.

Re: Tata's "DurAlloy Wheel" is actually a steel rim with a plastic wheel cap!

Mercedes have Artico man-made leather seats in their cars, which is effectively artificial leather or leatherette, and it’s clearly mentioned in their brochures. Similarly, Tata could have honestly/appropriately mentioned it as steel wheel with some fancy name for fake-alloy caps.
And they explicitly mention the lack of alloy wheels in the lower variants of Tiago; effectively a case of fleecing customers.

Re: Tata's "DurAlloy Wheel" is actually a steel rim with a plastic wheel cap!

[sarcasm on]So, is this the energy Tata folks spent on creating Tiago NRG variant?[/sarcasm off]

On other hand, for a variant marketed as Urban toughroader, Tata folks would have done right thing by having a different form of steel wheel. This is quite common in motorcycles, where spoke wheels are preferred for off-road variant and alloy wheels for regular road usage.

If only Tata Motors didn't market it so deceptively, they would have probably been apprciated for doing a good design job. In their attempt to deceive, they have fallen flat!

Agree. One would, atleast for brand names like Tata, take what is mentioned and what is seen as what it means / should mean. Just shows that no matter what, no brand is supreme in ethical standards. There is always a slip of some sort. Unintentional slip, people might let it pass. Such intentional cheap gimmicks, people will remember. Hopefully more people, most importantly probable customers are made aware of this.

True that. Very logical. Hmm.. we can't take Tata Motors to court. But also, we have the option of not taking a Tata car home too. Latter is way easier and more punishing on Tata Motors.

Well after all NRG is a plastic addition, isn't it? Body kits made out of plastic and an Alloy wheel doesnot really suite the theme here. Plastic wheel caps is just the need of the hour. Below picture is so apt here.
