OBD (On-board diagnostics) for Indian Cars

Can someone point out where the OBD port is in an OHC VTEC 2000 model? Bought a scanner, spent the better part of an hour searching for the damn port on both sides of the dashboard. Soiled my tshirt, cut my finger, had dust get into my contact lenses, a small bruise on my elbow but couldn't find the damn port.

Called a guy in Honda who told me that the port was near the steering wheel, nothing there. Someone in this thread said it was on the passenger side, nothing there either. Help me before i hurt myself even more

sorry to break it to you dude, OHC doesnt have an OBD port. It has a 3 pin prop plug for diagnostics.

lol i think he was guessing. The port he mentioned is the same one i am referring too.
It runs on Honda proprietary protocol and diag tool. I had to return my scanner due to the same reason.

Ok, so I guess it's going to be HDS or GNA600. Both of them are prohibitively expensive, the HDS going at around 300USD and GNA600 going at around 600USD. Any suggestions from any members?

Finally, after 2 weeks of sniffing every byte going through serial port and a lot of help at the Fiat forum, I made ELM327 work on my Fiat petra with my own software. I am able to read error codes, Fiat drawing numbes and most live parameters..

Yet I have not been able to make it work on my wife's Swift. Let you all know when I meet success!

If any one is interested, the communication protocol for the older model (non OBD2) Suzuki ECU's on BSII Baleno, Esteem and Gypsy, is available on this site -> Diagnostics

Using the chart and the byte sequences on the site, I managed to get responses out of my Baleno using a Windows serial port comms program, but didn't have the time to fully explore it. :(

Grrr.. Do you expect SWIFT to be pre OBD II ???

Thats why I specifically mentioned older model (non OBD2) Suzuki ECU's on BSII Baleno, Esteem and Gypsy.

@Nisarg.. I am not sure but do try OBD II. It is a Fiat engine developped after 2001 so there is a possibility it might comply to OBD standards..

@Spadival.. When Maruti is over milking the success of old 1.3 esteem engine, I don't know what more to expect.

I have tried on Swift and WagonR. Both of them did not respond to OBD standard commands.

It should be close to the steering column according to information available in the net. Search on either side of it.

In Vista, it is integrated into the fuse box area. Check there too!
